is it just never going to be reliable, and stutter free.

Seems like its trying to transfer more than 2MB/sec during replay, and a 54Mbits/sec wireless should give (54/8 =) 6.5MB/sec so there should be plenty of bandwidth. But, I'm getting really stuttery replay at best (unwatchable), and CPU on the server or client is not high.

I think 54 mbps at "excellent" connection will give you maybe 3MB/sec download. Which otoh should be enough for playing on a client. For me it works ok.

playback of my recordings over 54g works perfectly since i ditched the useless Netgear WG121 USB device.

However this is using windows explorer to access the recordings share and VLC for playback as I don;t use the gbpvr client very often. perhaps try this method out to see if it works for you. if it does, perhaps you should try a different mpeg decoder on the client.

i find wireless is very different between the hardware i have one wireless card
that is meant to be 54g but it alwaya drops signal doesnt matter what machine you use it on
are you using streaming or file share ?
are you going directly between 2 machines or from server(wireless)to router to client(wireless)

I don't think it is a waste of time. I have a wireless 54g laptop running as a client and can use all gbpvr features either streaming or file sharing. Server is wired 100 to a wireless router. Both machines running XP Pro SP2...

IMHO worth persevering till you get it sorted.
