Hi all,

I've been running GBPVR v 99.12 since it was released (well many versions before that but stuck with 99.12 'cos it did everything I wanted).

I was running 4 x MVP's with it, no probs.

Today I decided to upgrade to GBPVR v 100.16

Looks great (thanks SUB)

But now MVP's just don't respond.

I was running Martin's MVPMC dongle before because it gave me slick volume control.

I don't understand what I've done wrong but know it is me being stupid!

. Intalled 100.16 GBPVR on clean sytem (XP)
. All previous set ups with my router and ports remain the same as
when I had to tweak before.
. No MVP is not finding the new dongle
. I know it is me being stupid but what have I missed!!!????

Do you have a firewall if so check the settings as it uses PVRX2.EXE now not GBPVR.EXE like it used to.

Sweet Jaggy,

For reference you are right. Had previously set router to enable settings but new install of XP set Firewall, turned it off and voila MVP is there.

Out of interest what happens if someone wants to run XP Firewall? Same ports to open as with my router?

Cheers

Yes. That's what I do. Have to do it manually and check sometimes after a MS update as it seems to do some "unwanted" resetting on the blocking front...don't ask me why...

Most people just open pvrx2.exe for all tcpip and udp ports on their private network. If you are really paranoid I put some more precise info here. http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=3

Thanks all,

Guess I'm lucky as I don't need XP Firewall, nice just to turn it off and let the router do the work firewall-wise. Are XP Firewall settings covered in another thread should anyone pick this up?

Seems like I can't set Vista's firewall to allow the MVP to work. I've set gbpvr and pvrx2 to allow but unless it's turned off, MVP won't play. What other programs might I need to allow in Vista firewall to let the MVP work.
Actually, my Linksys router should be all I need but I'm slightly anal and like the extra protection.

None. You should check out that you've got everything setup correctly (GBPVR did it for me) go into the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security option under Control Panel->Administrative Tools. Then look at Inbound Rules and you should see PVRX2 with Private Profile Enabled.

If this is all true you probably have to define the Private Network Profile and I can't remember how to do this right now.

Martin, thanks mucho. GBPVR was in the list but not PVRX2. I've not gone into that area ever before and need to get in and get my hands dirty and get me some edge-a-macation!
I did notice the video quality wasn't so great so I'll see if this helps.
Appreciate the info.
