I am having an occasional issue where the screen goes dark, not totally black but the movie is hardly visible, it looks like somesort of overlay problem where the overlay is not 100% transparent. I can see the picture, but it is like the brightness is turned down only different. I reset the MVP and it goes away for a day or so. Anyone experienced this?

I saw a thread that said they needed to check "Fully Transparent OSD" in the config tool, but I don't see a box like that.

I think that might be 'Force minimal OSD for MVP' on the MVP tab...

I have this checked but I occasionally get the same problem - I never tried to fix it yet. When it happens I simply press 'Menu' or 'Guide' twice on the remote and picture comes back to normal.

I used to get this occasionally (not enough/repeatable to report), I don't think I've experienced it since the 1.x release (could be in my mind though...)

That should do the trick

I have "Force minimal..." checked. I will try hitting guide or menu twice to clear it. I guess no one knows the cause?

When I used my MVP I had this problem also.
It would happen after a couple of hours of use.
I just thought it was the MVP overheating or something because if I unplugged it for a little it would come back.

If I unplugged it for 30 minutes it would be ok again for a few hrs.

Nothing so drastic for me, I just pause then play or flick channels and all is ok

I appreciate the information. I didn't know this happened to others as well. I will try the keypress combinations instead of having to reset the MVP, they will make it a very minor inconvenience instead of just a minor one. I think it does happen after extended use, I will look at how hot the MVP gets.

Thanks!

I also get this occasionally, and was always doing the channel up/down which was OK but a bit tedious. Based on this thread, though, I found the OSDTransparency value in config.xml, which I've set to 0 (255 seemed to be completely black) - need to restart the recording service after changing it. I think this is probably what was meant, since I've also always had 'minimal OSD' configured, which didn't fix the problem. Obviously it doesn't make the random overlay problem go away, but should make it invisible when it happens. (Still waiting to be certain, but no problems so far.)

Note for anyone using mvpmc that setting the transparency value to 0 or 1 can cause problems and they are not recommended. Based on some feedback I've received mvpmc just ignores the request to dim the screen so this shouldn't be a problem anyway.
