Now that Zap2It's free service is gone, I decided to dload the latest GBPVR and was hoping it had a replacement for Zap2It. In GB's config utility I saw the latest list of EPG choices. Since I already have a Vista Ultimate PC, I figured the MceEpg2XmlTv would be a great choice...

So I downloaded the latest MceEpg2XmlTv (0915) installer and ran setup.exe on my Vista PC, which has 2 working TV tuner cards. When I try to run setup, it first complains of a security issue, which I assume is just typical of Vista. So I click on the security dialog's [Continue] button and the installer continues. But the thermometer bar only gets to about 50% and stalls. The installers's dialog window's controls are still active, as I can click on [Install] again, change the default folder etc.

Any advice? Any prerequisites that I might be missing?

GBPVR will be running on a different PC (XP Pro) with a PVR150 tuner. I'm hoping that MceEpg2XmlTv will be able to save it Xml epg listings across my network to the target PC running GB...

Thanks!
-Mike

I downloaded the 0919 version of the ZIP you posted today, but it still stalls at about 50%. Very odd too, in that the controls/buttons in the installer window are all functional (not dimmed). I would think the installer should disable all buttons (except a Cancel if there is one) during installation, no?

I did notice that only the .DAT file was updated, as the setup.exe is still dated 8/26. Assume that is correct?

Nothing gets saved in the \EPG folder. By the way, this is NOT a typical installation of Vista, as the OS is located on drive G. I tried running the installer with C:\EPG (C is a valid drive for another OS). Also tried G:\EPG. Both stall at 50%...

This Vista PC, like all my PCs, is a member of a Windows 2003 domain.

Is the security warning that displays after clicking on [Install] button normal?

I'm going to explain a manual installation procedure to install the GUI and tools. The setup is acting up. In order to prove that:

Extract the 'setup' folder out of the zip.
Inside the zip, rename setup.dat > setup.zip.
Create a directory. G:\EPG should be fine

Copy the following list of folders and files to the G:\EPG :

From inside the GUI folder copy all files to the G:\EPG folder. (Don't copy the 'GUI' folder. Click into the GUI folder and copy only the listed folders)

From inside the 'MceEpg_Common' folder copy all folders to G:\EPG

From inside the 'MceEpg_Vista' folder copy both files to the G:\EPG folder

Inside the G:\EPG folder create a new folder "Output"

That should be it. You should be able to run the GUI.

It's obvious that you are having security issues on your computer. That said, you may be faced with even more challenges while using the GUI and the tools

Thanks for the manual installation instructions! I am now able to run the GUI executable. But I think I might not fully understand how to use it in my scenario: Computer #1 has Vista, and is the PC where I installed the MceEpg2XmlTv GUI program. Computer #2 is XP, and has the PVR150 tuner card and GBPVR software. So I want PC #1 to download and output the EPG file(s) to a location on computer #2 (they are networked). In the MceEpg's Config.ini I can see the first setting lets me specify an output path, which I could set to a folder on PC #1. But, on PC #2, how do I configure GBPVR's Capture Sources->EPG Source to use this file created by MceEpg2XmlTv?

In case anyone else follows your manual installation instructions, I did note that it was not necessary to create a folder named OUTPUT in the main install folder (C:\EPG). Such a folder already existed in the MceEpg_Common folder which I copied according to your notes...

Are you saying that when you've run the installer under Vista, that you do not get any security warnings? One of the complaints I've seen about Vista is that it warns you about everything, popping up security notices right and left... Maybe you've lowered, or disabled, these security settings in your Vista environments?

Thanks again for all the help!
-Mike

Do not look inside the config.ini or try to set paths.... The GUI does its own thing...

Make sure that the GUI (both download and export) works.

On PC1 share the EPG folder.

On PC2 confirm that you can see PC1's EPG folder. If you can't at this stage, get help, you will be stuck until you get this...

In GB-PVR config (on PC2) open "Capture Sources' Tab, edit a capture source, select XMLTV as a EPG source, Click 'Setting', then Browse to your PC1's Shared EPG folder. You'll find your EPG data in the Output folder. It will be named after your HeadEnd....

Now make sure that The GUI on PC1 is scheduled to run BEFORE, the GB-PVR EPG update occurs, and that both computers are on, while GB-PVR updates the EPG...

That worked, as I was able to manually update the EPG on PC#1 using the GUI. Is there any way to automate the GUI so it runs at a specified time/schedule? Or do I need to use command lines and create a batch that runs under Windows Task Scheduler? I know how to config GBPVR's EPG to process at a certain time, but not the MceEpg2XmlTv GUI...

Thanks again for all your assistance!

You would need to create a batch file that includes the 'auto' switch, and have that run with Task Schedule

So I would no longer use the GUI executable? Switch to the command line utils? Or are you saying the GUI has an optional -auto switch?
