I think we may have beaten the whole cable issue to death here but this is really nuts.

Article

Someone at one of the audiophile magazines gave a $7000.00+ pair seaker cables a glowing review, calling them "danceable". Someone else has offered a million dollars if anyone can prove they are any better than typical monster cables. Nobody has accepted the offer.

I highly doubt that the recording eaquipment used to create CD's uses this level of cabling. No matter how good your equipment at home is, you are still limited by the quality of the equipment used to press the recording.

Reminds me of an article I read about car stereos once. A famous installer said that "sound quality peaks at around $5000.00. After that it's all about ego"

I like it. My favorite is - most people use an audio system to listen to their music, an audiophile uses music to listen to their system.

Brilliant - I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again...

Why can't people get it into their heads that a lot of studios (I haven't worked in them all!) have the sh*tiest cables I've ever seen. Mains cable for monitors, cables cobbled together with electrical or even gaffer tape

It's all about finding the crazy few that put the money on the table. LOL.

Sound like art. its more in the explanation than the piece of art itself sometimes -edit- often -edit-.

For that price, it had better let me listen to a CD before it's released.

We should form the GB Audio Company and sell $8990.00 HDMI cables. Send them to reviewers and see how they like them. I have a couple of 6 footers lying around we can rebrand. Big Grin

I also have a pair of Wharfdales. Bought them as kits about 25 yrs ago when we lived in Scotland. I think they were sell-outs when Wharfdale went out of business. I think they've since come back but don't know if it's really the same company.

I drive them thru 14 gauge zip cord that I bought at Lowe's.

The best set of speakers I ever had was a pair of 70's era Pioneers towers with hardwood cabinets that weighed over 50lbs each. I had the Pioneers and a pair of ancient Bose speakers with plastic floor stands and covered with brown tweed.

These were driven by an equally ancient 400 watt Realistic receiver / amp full of vacuum tubes that glowed orange through the grill on top.

This system was a house shaker. The ports on the Pioneers could easily blow out a butane lighter with the volume set to 5.

I still have the whole setup in storage. I'm unlikey to ever be able to use it again unless I get my Man Cave set up.

LOL, those speaker wires are funny.
I wish I could collect on the million dollar prize... but its not gonna happen, because in an actual test with speaker wires where you could actually switch between wires instantly, people could not tell the difference between mains cable and high end speaker wire, as long as the gauge was the same. if poeple want the link... I can dig it up somewhere!
