Problem with monitor

Any idea would help.

setup: PVR (Laptop, IBM T42) connected to a plasma via DVI->HDMI connection.

The problem: when I switch the TV on and switch to the right input, I have a black screen. If I put the laptop to sleep (can do from the MS Keyboard) and then wake it (must get up and press something on the damn laptop), screen comes back to life.

In XP, screen saver is disabled, and so is the "switch off monitor" in the Power Options.

A while back, when this started, I created a small batch file that uses nircmdc.exe (http://www.nirsoft.net) to switch monitor off and on. It used to solve it.

For some reason it doesn't work anymore (the "off" part works, the "on" I guess doesn't).

Any idea? it's a real PITA.

turn the brightness up on the laptop maybe low voltage use to happen on my projector
double check connections
