Its not something I intend to do myself, but if they let users run client applications on the device, then hopefully mvallevand will get keen and port his great mvpmc emulation work.

I'm very interested in working on this, and if you have read my comments in this thread this unit (more generically the Syabas NMT) seems to meet the price and media playing requirements for a new gen mvp.

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=26397

If you check out the the Syabas forums

http://www.networkedmediatank.com/index.php

you will see I am active (my username is emveepe) and I do have a popcorn hour reserved.

No guarantees and definitely don't buy one thinking this will ever work with GBPVR, but I will try and provide some progress reports on the mvpmc forum here. Getting it to output "hello popcornhour world" will be the first milestone.

This could be very interesting.

Especially since it does xvid, divx, etc. I make everything xvid immediately. I want Smile

I'd LOVE one if it could drop-in replace the MVP with Xvid/Dvix and x264 formats. Save a lot of HD space and and when I get a faster PC, I can transcode.... we're counting on you Martin ..boldly go...! :-)

I have one of these now (I was lucky to get in on the first production run) and I see alot of promise for this device. There are 2 options, Port MVPMC's emulation code for this device and/or make an interface using syabas's web based protocol. (like wizd uses)

I don't have an HD set but the PH can downsample so I have been streaming 1080i/p TS files to it and watching them on my SD set.

Its also nice to use a USB Wireless keyboard with th PH.

Hi Martin,

I'm tossing up between, (in order of preference):
  1. Waiting for an MVP replacement (such as the Popcorn hour, silent device next to the TV) if such a device can "do" GBPVR, and purchasing a new PC, which I want for Xmas anyway, for my Server/main machine upstairs in the bedroom.
  2. Getting a new silent PC with HDMI out now and placing it next to the TV and let it do all GBPVR stuff, transcode files MPEG2 to Xvid and play Xvids directly to the TV.
  3. Getting a powerful enough machine to replace the one in my bedroom, such that it can record MPEG2's, transcode them to Xvid, then transcode them "on the fly" BACK to MPEG2 so the MVP can play them.
So, just as an update, have you got your wee A-100 and how's it looking for emulation? If yes, any time-scale? Big Grin

I have absolutely no idea whether a client application is the same as "running your own executables" but that thread (in which you have been participating) seems to have generated a few "woo-hoo's" on that forum.

Note that this link

is just an example, of how the NMT browser can auto load a
HTML file (for content navigation purpose, or up to user's creativity).
Likewise, we can auto load a BIN file for execution.

Cheers

Sorry no update, no PH yet Sad On a positive note, Syabas did say they will add user apps in the next firmware

http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewto...1&start=35

I doubt this will allow much yet, so please don't count on anything or get your hopes up if you are looking for a working solution.. Also since the native demux on the NMT is mpeg-ts I'd prefer a change in gppvr but that will come much later.

Cheers Martin, it looks so good, and I've been very happy with the MVP, so if it can "do" Xvid and H264 over my (now wired) network, I'd be happy to wait a bit.

I can source a new server in the meantime, to do MPEG2=>Xvid transcodes to save HD space... I don't know much about mpeg-ts, but it looks like what comes out of DVB, which we don't have here yet.

I am presuming the PVR-150's I use don't currently output it natively... so it's another transcode or wait for capture devices that DO do that ?

Digital HD is natively mpeg-ts which is where I want to head. mvpmc will probably have to do the the mpeg-ps to mpeg-ts demux just like it does today with mpeg-ts to mpeg-ps to handle legacy video.
