I really like the ease with which you can navigate the wiki. However, in the bar on the left, there is no subheading "Using GB-PVR" under "Manual". While you can access this information by clicking on "Manual", does anyone know how to add an extra subheading on the left so that the instructions for using GB-PVR are easily accessible for those who don't think about clicking on the heading "Manual"?

Most of the screenshots are updated for version 1.1.5 unless the screen has not been changed since the last posted screenshot. One exception is the "capture source" tab. I don't want to use my configuration as the sample because I named my capture source "schedules direct" which, as I have now learned, from another post by someone who did the same thing, leads to all kinds of confusion. It seems to me that the best example of a screenshot would be from someone who had more than one tuner and possibly different kinds (pvr150, hd1600), etc., particularly if one source was digital and one was analog. I have read various posts that suggest that the order in which you list the capture sources can make it easier\harder to get all your requested recordings without a "no tuner available" message. This would be easier to explain if the sample screenshot had multiple tuners appropriately named. It would also help if someone who actually worked through the problem explained the best way to list the tuners. (All this in anticipation that I might get a second tuner for ChristmasSmile)

It seems that you have a couple of great ideas. Here's an idea so that you can fake the screen shot you want to make yourself...

If you back up your config.xml and gbpvr.db3 you can delete your Schedules Direct entry in the Capture Sources screen and add any card you want. You don't actually need the card to fake the screen shot. Once you've grabbed the shot, replace the database, and you'll be back to the beginning...

I could do it, just as easy, but I'm only on Dial up Internet at the moment and haven't had a chance to upgrade my GB-PVR.

Do you have access to make changes to the wiki? When I first started 'tweaking' (overhauling) more than a year ago, I was at first quite nervous about making changes that would be read by many people from around the world. I found that many people were happy to have someone make changes if they were 'hopefully' for the better.

Go ahead and make the changes if you want. Just remember your audience. Remember that many people use the wiki as their source for information, and that too many radical changes will cause some people to have coronaries...

The wiki has a page history that will help in straightening out problems, but start small and you should be fine.

If you're really worried, you can make the change and then post something here to have someone else proof it or something...

I've been editing the config and manual for a while now, and it's been a bit of work to keep it up. It's great that someone wants to contribute.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have made some small changes. Part of my reluctance for updating this last screenshot is that I don't yet fully understand which order the analog and digital tuners should be listed and what the pros and cons for putting them in one order or another are. Hopefully someone who has been through it will have a screenshot with the tuner tuners named correctly and in a logical order.

Heaven forbid I trample on your enthusiasm, but I've made a couple of changes to your changes... (for consistency's sake)

First, in general (especially for the manual and config of GB-PVR) I think we try not to cling to the past. Sub would rather have us upgrade the program and work out bugs, than to hang on to an older version. For this reason, I have removed references to 98.13 (the screen shots)

Even though the OLD GUI that is included with current releases is still really the 98.13 version, the config will still be current.

Text the screen shot sizes. Here I'm being fussy. In general do what you'd like. But for the config on the wiki I used this method to get the screen shots:

Open the config to the appropriate tab and press 'Alt + Print Screen' This will copy onto the clipboard only the window in focus.

In MS Paint (simple and good enough here) Paste the image.

Then in Stretch/Skew, I change the horizontal and vertical % to 90 %. Sometimes I will go to 80 or 85% but then the writing gets too small. 90% is what I used for the manual, when images were just a bit too wide...

I save that in JPG format. In this case I saved into the same filename as what was on the wiki.

I uploaded the image, it overwrites, and the picture is updated...

I've been very busy and the wiki does need cleanup. Don't hesitate to go for it.

It's just I have my A-Type moments... Big Grin

I still feel encouraged. I would just like clarification on what "text the screen shot sizes" means. I can't use MSPaint because it disappeared from my computer and I don't know how to get it back(my son says that it is probably in a cab file which is why my install disk won't let me reinstall it). I have an alternate program called Hover, which is even easier. I can enter in a size number in pixels for one side and the other side will adjust so the screenshot isn't distorted but I don't know what number to use. I had to scale down the last screenshot because unlike all the earlier screenshots I had uploaded, it had too many bytes to be uploaded: when I made the picture smaller, it had less bytes.

Sorry. I may have typoed, but also it appears that 'someone' has accidentally edited my last post so I can't know what I was thing... "Text the screen shot?" What was I thinking? Big Grin

Anyway, mspaint is quite a portable program, and you can easily get a copy.

As I mentioned before, do what you'd like in general. I was only being picky for the manual's sake.

Here's how I go by when I adjust screenshots. I set my monitor resolution to 1024x 768 to get a feel for the largest Internet explorer or Firefox window I want to work with. Then I make sure that none of the pictures I upload will force a wiki page to extend to the right beyond that window.

Text should wrap properly, but a large picture will force the wiki page bigger than the viewing window.

That's 'large' as in dimensions. Then there's the file size that's important. If the file is a BMP or some TIFFs, then us poor dialup users have to wait hours to view a page.

Most of the pictures I saved as jpgs with paint, are no where near too large a file size. The dimensions don't extend outside the window either.

On this page that I'm writing http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/ZStart
You will see the largest screenshot has not been shrunk at all, and yet you will still see a sliver of the darker blue peak through on the right side of the web page...

A couple of the pics you posted looked like they were processed, and there was a sort of tartan pattern overlayed on the images. I wonder if there are some settings with 'hover' that caused that. That's why I use Paint. It's easy, (almost privative) and that works for these type of graphics...

Another rule of thumb is that rarely does anyone need to see a whole screen shot, and usually only the window in focus, which should not be taking the screen anyway. So only rarely would you have to resize the dimensions. And if you save in standard JPG, it should a small enough file for uploading and downloading...
