I know i have asked this question before but it has been such a long time i thought i would ask again and see if anything has changed.

I would like to play High Def dvd's in either format throught gbpvr. I have an Hd dvd drive in my computer currently but I am interested if either format is supported natively at this time.

Thanks,

Unlike DVD playback, Microsoft has specified that application providers like Cyberlink dont provide reusable playback components for HD-DVD or BluRay, so there is no way for GB-PVR play either of these formats.

You best options is creating a custom menu task that runs PowerDVD or WinDVD, or ripping them to your hard drive and converting them to high def x264 mkv files so that they can be played easily from the Video Library.

I managed to get BluRay to work (well, the only one I have anyway).

1. Haali Splitter
2. Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra (3319a if you want HDD playback, 3319f breaks this, though people have used Daemon tools to mount an ISO - haven't tried this myself)
3. AC3filter - to get the DD out of the DD+ audio track
4. add m2ts to the file extension list in the config.xml
5. choose the main m2ts to playback

2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE Graph contains the following filters:
2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE - Default WaveOut Device
2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE - Video Renderer
2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE - AC3Filter
2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE - CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD7.x)
2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE - CyberLink Demux (PDVD7)
2007-12-29 11:43:31.968 VERBOSE - \\Tuscan\BACKUPS (J)\Not Watched\BluRay\Casino_Royale_(2006)_nzb\Casino Royale\FullDisc\DVD_VOLUME\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts

And very nice it looks too. Big Grin

Clearly you need a beefy CPU/GPU combination as well. Not sure I'm getting H/W video acceleration but it doesn't matter with my C2D 2.6/7600GT combo

I haven't found a way of constructing a directshow graph for EVO files yet. I just get a black screen for VC-1 HD-DVDs. Trying to convert these to MKV right now to see if it makes a different. I'll report back what I find.

PDVD is a horrible interface for those of use with multi-monitors and I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to use the custom task method to spawn it from GBPVR/PVRX2. Can't imagine it would like the fact that PVRX2 is running with VMR9/FSE. when PVRX2 is running I can never run any other video on the other monitor, so I doubt running both at once is possible.

Not far off, but this really should be easier. Definitely not a GB-PVR issue though, it does what is can from DirectShow. Smile

Other issues are likely to be Dolby TrueHD (and DTS HD) decoding as there isn't a AC3 track (or regular DTS) in there as far as I know. So if your BluRay comes with that only, then there is unlikey to be any audio. I've read elsewhere that libav/ffmpeg might have TrueHD, though I've tried to keep the number of filters to a minumum up until now...as there are always conflicts.

Quick Update. What I said about DD+ above is incorrect. AC3filter doesn't do this, as this is the reason I can't playback my EVO files. The E-AC3 track hangs the player (anything GraphEdt, MPC, WMP etc). So that must mean that the m2ts Casino Royale blu-ray must have a regular AC3 track that I can use with AC3filter.

Haven't found a free way of playing back DD+/E-AC3. Some people are using Sonic or Nero, which cost. Not willing to do that really. Sad
