Upgrading a bit, able to make HTPC! Need some Insight

Hey guys, going to try and get back in the swing of things with computers by upgrading a few systems in this dark area...

First off,

I have a P4 3.4GHz 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB CPU just lying around...

I plan on buying a motherboard for it sometime soon, as well as the RAM, CPU cooler, and I have things such as the case, psu, HDD, etc.

I have a 8500gt running on a turion 64 1.8 ghz processor and just last night got studer free play back of 1080i content, you wont see 1080p from broadcasts in the us any times soon; too bad as it would be easier to play back do to the deinterlacing of 1080i. You will have to fanagle the options to get it going but its not to hard, I use the purevideo decoder and fse for pvx2 and have set up custom options for pvrx2 in the nvidia control panel for the 3d options that have seem to iorn out the studer.
Output to the tv of high resolutions such as 1080p is not really a problem
