This might not be a GBPVR specific problem, so I am sorry. I just felt this would be a good place to start.

First off, I have an HVR-1600 MCE kit, it has the USB remote sensor and black remote. I am running gbpvr 1.1.15 on an old version MCE Windows XP (2002?). As far as I know I have installed all updates, Windows and Hauppauge.

The problem I am having is with irremote.ini. I have been trying to making changes to what was already there, and adding new programs to it. But it seems that no matter what changes I make, it doesnt effect anything. I have tried restarting the IR service, and rebooting the computer. It doesnt help. So I deleted the irremote.ini entirely. And the remote is still functioning how it was originally without the file there. How is that possible? Is my irremote.ini not even being used/recognized? Am I over looking something here?

Thanks for the help, and reading all of that.

I don't think "it has the USB remote sensor and black remote." is the hauppauge remote, sounds like an MCE one, which means it porbably doesn't use the hauppauge ir software.

Easy way to test, shut down the ir program (normally found in the sys tray) and try using the remote. If it still goes then you're not using it, therefore no matter ehat changes you make to irremote.ini it aint gonna do anything.

As for how to make changes to what you are using, sorry, someone else will have to help you. Good luck

yep, you have the MCE style remote..
try HIP...it allows even other remotes to be used..Big Grin
it and other programs like it,[Eventghost, etc] are the only way to remap extra MCE remotes keys for full coverage..

I've noticed that GB-PVR can accept hauppauge remote commands without using IR.exe.
How is that done? I asked hauppauge about interacting with the remote directly and got
'We do not have any documentation or software that can do this' as a response...

Alright just so I understand, If irremote.ini is not currently controlling my remote then what is? I do not see an IR related items running in the task manager, yet the remote sensor is still receieving and running commands.

I am going to give HIP a try, it looks promising. But if whatever is controlling the remote right now is still running, then HIP isn't going to help

Thanks for all the quick and helpful replies

depends entirely on what you want to do with your remote. if you want to remap all the keys then you can use the mce replacement driver and use hip. if you want to control a few specific keys for just opening programmes etc then you can just leave it as it is, as its using the generic ehome drivers.

I finally got to the computer and installed HIP.
I don't know how I hadn't heard of this program before.
It is going to work perfectly, it is just what I needed!
