if I enable EWA on a client PC it serves up 'empty' pages (guide, video and music librarys etc). Is there a way round this?
My thinking behind this is was to lighten the load on my main pc (the gbpvr server) - but I also realise that it's still the server that will be file serving and transcoding to the client, so I would also ask if there's actually any real benefit to my plan....

First....EWA won't work in client mode.....the web server runs from the gbpvr recording service....so when you have it running on a client it connects to gbpvr via the API that is available via the dll's in the web\bin directory. I can only assume that the API does not recognize client configuration settings and defaults to pulling all the data from the standard gbpvr directory.....sub would need to verify this....but that is what I think is happening (or not happening) in client mode.

As for whether or not there would be any benefit.....I really doubt it. The engine for EWA is the GBPVR API which is connected to the host server which is used to access all the guide and programme info. You would be trading off host processing of the API calls with traversing the network with the database calls from the API to the data which then returned back across the network to EWA via the API.........so the only thing you would really be doing is slowing response time in EWA since now calls to get the guide/programme info would have to traverse the the network(both to and from the host).....plus some EWA specific coding would need to be (at a minimum) "reworked" since it currently assumes that it is running on the host machine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice - I think I'll file that plan under 'b' for bin then Smile
