Hi. My DVD's wont play on a standard DVD player. I get an error during the burn process

Fix VTS Sectors Failed

Reason: could not find VIDEO_TS.IFO file

Do you want to continue anyway?

I assume it's connected???

Are you trying to burn a double layer disk or are you trying to burn more than 4.7gb to a single disk?

no to both questions - very small file 1.3GB, onto single sided DVD.....

I tried using Nero - 6.6.1.4 - but DVDBurn never actually runs the Nero software, so I can't even avoid IMGBURN.

It will run Nero if you have it configured correctly. If it doesn't find the nerocmd where you specified it in the config then it defaults back to imgburn. However, it seems like dvdauthor is not producing the right file. Do you have a way to host a small example of a file that won't burn so I can test it?

I've just experimented with a 30 second file I've just recorded. I used the ImgBurn software - and it burnt onto DVD absolutely fine.

I tried again using the file I wanted to burn originally - which is an hour long - and it failed with the same error as above (missing file).

DVDauthor doesn't seem to create a VIDEO_TS.IFO file with the larger file.
With the smaller file it creates the following 6 files in the video_ts folder:
_ts.bup x2
_ts.ifo x 2
_ts.vob x 2

When I do the bigger file, all that is in the folder is:
1 file -
.vob

Any possibility of getting that file where I can download it? DVDauthor can be a little flakey (although for whatever reason it has always worked for me).
Can you try running this directly from the command line and see if there are any error messages? Open a command prompt and go to the temp\burndvd dir and run builddvd.cmd

Which file - the original? It's 1.3GB - I don't think I'd have the webspace to put that anywhere.

Log enclosed.

Also, I just tried a load of different files and it's not creating the other files either. From first glance, i can see no reason why the file that works does, and the ones that don't don't.

Do you have subtitles enabled? Try turning them off.
Also try burning as an NTSC ISO. You will need to run the config to configure as NTSC. Most of my tests are NTSC, so maybe we can narrow down the trouble if it is in the PAL scripts.

I can set up an FTP client here. Would you be able to upload the file?

I have turned captions off - no change.
I have changed to NTsC - still no change.
