I'm having problems with the EPG on my new build. When I request an EPG update something is definitely happening, there are a load of files like this created in my recordings directory:

4/02/2008 23:09 100,144,834 gbepg-T10714,H,22000,56-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8.dvr-ms

But when the process has finished, most channels are blank, some have the odd programme or two listed.

Logs are attached from an epg update run.

Thanks for any help with this, it's really bugging me!

Jon.

One thing you can do is look for where the xml file from the epg saves and see if it is there. Then open it in Notepad and see if all the channels and programs and decriptions are in there. At least then you know if the EPG download itself is mostly working.

You get files like that in the Recordings directory, as if you set it to record that weird program? I think I've read of that problem on the forums before, somewhere.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Thanks. Any idea where the xml files should be? I've done a recursive dir of the gbpvr directory in program files and there's no obvious epg xml files in there. Loads of those gbpeg... files in the recordings directory - another whole bunch have now appeared from when the auto epg update ran this morning, too. I'll search for similar issues.

Those 'gbepg-...' files are temporary - they are created as part of the DVB EPG update process. Try deleting them and then re-run your EPG Update.

I deleted them and re-ran it but it didn't really help, still just the odd entry in the EPG. I've had to re-install Vista now (nothing to do with gbpvr) so am going to re-install from scratch later tonight, whereupon I'll continue trying to sort this out.

When in doubt, type xmltv.xml or just xml into the Windows search engine and see what comes up.

I may be thinking wrongly though depending on your setup. I was thinking all EPGs create an xml file, but maybe it's only if the EPG is gotten a certain way. I use OTA with a scraper, so most of my thinking is that way.

Quick link to the wiki which you've probably already read, but I happened to be looking at it so why not link it. http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/EPG

Deusxmachina: I had another look at jonm's log and he is taking his EPG from the DVB-S broadcast so there is no xml involved...

jonm: I can see from your logs that you are only getting info for some of your channels and when you do get any info you seem to be getting 2 shows for each - that sounds very much like Now/Next info you are getting...

I've no experience of DVB-S, so there's probably nothing much more I could suggest.

However, if your reload of vista doesn't fix it, you might want to post some more details of your setup...

Hi ACTCMS - yes that's exactly it - I only ever get a couple of shows. Just about to re-install now having fixed Vista so I'll see if it is still happening.

I've just tried this again, and it's only putting two shows - now and next - into the guide for each channel, as suggested earlier. Does that help with diagnosing what's wrong?
