Mmmmm....

16:9 with MVP, 16:9 TV, set 16:9 in config.

I start with MVP Position default (640,480 etc), then do the yellow box thing with the plugin, input new numbers in cnfig, validate. Restart config, then I go into GBPVR again and the MVP is NOT centred, (looks-wise) and also when I check the yellow box. So I recentre, and get a new set of numbers. I input these and do it all again .... why doesn't it keep the original centred yellow box (and why isn't that even centred wrt the TV?)

If you're referring to the MVP Screen Position plugin, I'm not sure if the author is around any more.

K, since you mention 16:9 there is no way to get widescreen GB-PVR screens on either the MVP or the NMT. GB-PVR currently only provides a maximum 720x576 SD area which will either be pillar boxed or zoomed if your TV allows it. The result is the MVP Position yellow rectangle should be within this area and it doesn't represent the actual TV screen.

Assuming the settings in config.xml are correct, then the GB-PVR screens should fill the screen on the MVP. Its not a case of 720x576 being 16:9 or 4:3. (ie, a 16:9 dvd has an resolution of 720x480/576, yet a 4:3 dvd also has a resolution of 720x480/576).

Did you look further into that stretch blt with directfb on the NMT? It'd be ideal if the emulator stretched the screen to fill the screen on the NMT.

I seem to be able to call it and get display but it acts like a Blit() so it might not be implemented. In component/dvi/hdmi modes the pillar boxed SD doesn't really apply anyway and the 720x480/576 digital output should be stretched by the monitor.

I know the processor in these devices arent the fastest, but if the stretch blit doesnt work, it might be worth trying a quick integer stretch from the received buffer to the fullscreen-sized buffer. (it'd only be a dozen or so lines of code)

...or of course I could write the version that'll remove the 720x576 limitation.

I will look into DirectFB's source for StretchBlit() to see what I can do, but it's probably not going to be a "silk purse".

Yes, plugin, sorry, poor explanation on my part. As I understand it the yellow box is a rectangle which you see on TV when using the plugin, but it's just a helper. The settings are actually in the config.xml and you don't "need" the box.

Oddly enough, it was the fact that I got the NMT to nicely "fill the screen" of my 16:9 Tv after I tweaked the MVP Screen Position Plugin (seperate MAC address to MVP) that got me thinking, "wow, I wonder if this works with the MVP" (as my MVP GBPVR screen was always a funny little 4:3 screen in the middle of my 16:9 TV, with thinnish black bars top and bottom and big wide (pillarbox) black strips right and left). GBPVR was set to 4:3, because all my shows (bar one) are SD format, with one SD, but at 16:9.

Hmm, I don't understand this fully, you mean the shows will be 16:9, just not the GBPVR screens? Here is my dongle.bin.config btw, I thought there was a 16:9auto setting from here http://mvpmc.wikispaces.com/commandline

(Now I look again, not sure where I got the auto suffix though)

Code:
umount /etc/mvpmc
mount.cifs //192.168.1.10/mvpmc /etc/mvpmc -o username=guest,password=guest,rw
mvpmc -F /etc/mvpmc/defaults -m pal -a 16:9auto -o svideo -o passthru --flicker 2 --startup emulate --emulate 192.168.1.10 &

Anyway, that's what I have and what I'm seeing.

I still don't know WHY the "yellow box" resets itself after I input parameters into config.xml for the screen position. The yellow box goes outside the bounds of what seems to be the limits of the "MVP window", which is itself WITHIN the full screen area. OTOH with the NMT screen I can manipulate the box to the full extent of the TV screen.

I hope this makes sense, I realise anyone reading it without doing what I've done with an MVP, a 16:9 TV, an NMT, config.xml and the plugin MVP Screen position would think I'm crazy.

Thanks!

It makes sense to me. With HDMI your monitor can be optimized even though the resolution provided by GB-PVR is only an SD equivalent. The same thing can be said about the video out. It will be upconverted to what your monitor is capable of even though it is SD.

Composite and svideo are just SD for the OSD but the NMT still has options to zoom video.

The 16:9 aspect ratio setting is used for video only and determines whether you want 16:9 videos in letter box or cut to fit a full 4:3 screen. There is actually another option in mvpmc to turn wide-screen-signaling off. WSS uses a command in the mpeg stream to adjust the screen on the fly
