Here is an easy one for your yellow paper on your desk, I hope?

Can we get an option to set the base priority of the recording service and the GBPVR.exe. I was thinking of a drop down list or an option button with the options of high and normal.

My GBPVR box is an old machine that is running a handfull of other services. When the other services are active GBPVR is sluggish and the MVP is sketchy at best.

I attempted to change the priority manually to see if it made a difference... I recieved an "Access is denied" error.

if you get an "access denied" error than you are not logged in as Administrator.

Can you change the priority of GBPVR.exe?

if you have XP, then it can be funny about admin permissions, so you need to be logged in as "Administrator" not an account that is a member of the Administrators group

i would also second this request. in an attempt to solve some of my own problems with sluggish (never under 10 seconds) channel-changing, i manually started adjusting the priority of GBPVR.exe. i noticed i was getting 100% CPU spikes, so i sought to fix that. this post actually is related to another couple, on the issue of channel-changing...but i'm a noob, and don't really know how to link to those other topics i've been lurking on.

my first thought was to up the priority of GBPVR.exe, so that's what i did: i set it to AboveNormal. bad idea. when i went to channel change, it basically took over the pc. while it was still technically responsive/usable, it was only so for the extremely patient (i'm not usually in that group). so then i went to BelowNormal, and wow, it was amazing the difference. cut my channel-change times in half. instead of 10-12s i was routinely at 4-5s -- not perfect, but certainly a big improvement. i then tried Low, but thought it seemed to be too unresponsive, so i'm happiest with BelowNormal. of course, i have to set this every time i start up gbpvr.

as far as why this helps, i could venture a couple guesses, but without knowing for sure what's going on in that section of code, it's just guesswork really. it could be a tight loop that sub's in, in which case a sleep() or a doevents() could help. or, as jrock, suggested, just allow for setting the priority the entire time.

create a .bat file with the following in it, and use that to start GBPVR

start /high gbpvr.exe

replacing /high with whatever priority you wanted /belownormal etc
