Probably this question was asked before, but I couldn't find it using the search function, so here goes.

SHORT: Is there a way to force windows to always wakeup in interactive mode?

LONG:

My GBPVR machine goes into standby when it is idle. When it resumes to start a recording, windows somehow knows the difference and does not activate the video output. I remember that I could move the mouse to get windows back on screen and fully interactive. Yesterday, it wouldn't wakeup, whatever I did. I moved the mouse, tried VNC and remote desktop, but it wouldn't come alive.

I therefore had to wait until all recordings were finished before I could use my machine again. Is there anything that can be done about this?

I've had some success with fullresume but not all the time.
The screen is alive and active, but I can't always connect remotely, the local keyboard or mouse has to be moved.
If I wake up the server with a WOL packet when it is off, it's fine. The problem only arises when a scheduled recording brings it to life.
I'm not overly worried, it's just the three flights of stairs, up then down ;(

My situation is exactly the same, except that my machine is on the ground floor. I use WOL magic packet to wake it up whenever I'm not home, but if is recording I must simply wait until it suspends again. I will have a look at fullresume... Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I have briefly skimmed the thread and will read them more thoroughly next.

Some of the posts were however about the VMR9 initialisation after resume, which is not my problem because I use EVR. I did actually suffer from the VMR9 problem, but could not get it solved, so I switched over to EVR which works fine.

I have also read the threads but can't quite figure out what they were talking about.
Can somebody, who has figured it out, write a step by step procedure how to solve this issue? I believe that many of us have the same problem and it might be worthwhile to write it down and put in wiki, maybe in tips section.

This is how i would start it:
Problem: When computer resumes from standby or hibernate to start a recording, windows usually does not activate the video output, so you have black screen. You press buttons on the remote but it still does not activate the videocard.

Here is what you should do:
1. Download and install .......

I don't know the rest. But I have this problem and can verify the solution.

Thanks.

I think you will find there is a couple of ways to accomplish this. The way I am doing it may not be the best but it has worked for me. I keep meaning to play with this some more but just haven't had the time. I am kind of going the long way around but since it is working I just haven't messed with it. I know K.S. had posted some of his stuff by my request here that will also help if going another route.

1.)Download GBPVRWake.exe from http://www.gbpvr.com/GBPVRWake.exe
2.)Download fullresume.exe from http://forums.gbpvr.com//attachment.php?...1195322553

I put both of these in my gbpbr folder. I put a shortcut to GBPVRWake in the startup folder so that it runs on startup. GBPVRWake will run a batch file wake.cmd on resume from hibernation if found in the gbpvr folder.

I created wake.cmd file that calls fullresume.exe. Something like below.

Code:
@echo off
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\fullresume.exe"
exit

dark_half, thanks for the info.
What does fullresume.exe do?
The reason I am asking is that it looks to me we have 2 issues here.
1. For some people (like me), after wakeup from standby, all devices are running except video card and I have dark screen. It remains dark even if I can hear clicks from my remote.
2. For other people, tv card would not wake up also, so recording service wouldn't run.

I understand that all what I would need is fullresume.exe and a way to activate it from remote. But, if fullresume.exe is waking all devices and restarting recording service then it would screw up whatever I am recording at the moment. Can you comment?

gbpvrwake.exe runs from startup and sits in the background after that.

When your PC resumes from standby gbpvrwake sees this and runs wake.cmd

If wake.cmd contains fullresume then this should wakeup your video card. Wake.cmd could also be used to fiddle with devices and restart the recording service.
The above will have happened a minute or so before the recording is due to start, so should not interfere with anything.
