Who would like to see DVD/VCD burning capability?

I think this would be the feature that would really put this program over the top! Allow the user to select the programs that have been recorded that they wish to burn. (Maybe even a "Delete after burn" option)

Anybody else think that would be cool? (Do i even have to ask that? )

i looked into this for the "my videos" plugin. i got it working perfect, i could select a few videos, click "Burn To DVD" and i got a perfect DVD. only problem, it took around 3-4hours to do this, on a 2.6ghz machine. so i didnt bother adding this feature. the problem was that when you record to mpeg2 files, they are considered "bad" by many dvd recorders, since you may drop a frame here and there. so you have to reprocess them with mplex, so you create a perfect mpeg video file and a mpeg audio file. then you have to create the dvd structure (VIDEO_TS etc folders). then you create the image, then you burn the image. so it takes around 2x the size of the original video files as well in temp space. if anyone knows of a quicker way, or a program that accepts the files as is, and has command line options, or a SDK, which is FREE (thats the biggy). ill add it to my videos. but theres no way im going to wait 3-4hours for it. thats just annoying.

So if I just burned the video using nero it would not play on most players? I was thinking about playing with this since it would be nice to have this functionality. And nero has a command line interface.

it might, i havent tried it. but a lot of dvd writing programs will say its a bad video file, because of dropped frames etc.  in which case you will have to mplex or another program to fix this, which is slow.

if nero lets you burn it, i think you'll be able to get away with it, its just a matter letting you burn it. dvdauthor doesnt allow for "bad" mpeg2 files.  i dont recommend using nero, due to the fact that its not freeware, im not keen on releasing a plugin which requires you to purchase software.  but it is a mission to find freeware which you can use either via the command line or via a dll etc.

also doesnt nero require you to split the mpeg file into two files, the m2v and mp2 file? ive never really used nero for dvd video, due to its limited features.

I havent really looked into to using nero to author the dvds either.  However I know that it comes with almost every dvd burner so it is not freeware but is probably one of the most common dvds besides aol sitting in someones house.

I might play with it to see if it works I do not want to have to split up the files.  I will let you know what I find.


What dvd author tools did you already try?

cheers man, if it works and doesnt take to long (thats the big issue, if it takes hours i feel its better if a pvr doesnt handle this itself, well via the pvr program, to much of a drama) ill add it to my videos.

im waiting to hear back from a free cd burner program (the guy who makes it is on holiday to jan 4th ) which will allow "my music" to burn a playlist to cdaudio (i got it working, i just has one popup box that shouldnt be there). i love the idea of a dvd/cd burner via a pvr, its what all pvrs should have, also if we get it working we will have one more thing over mce (their dvd burning is rubbish, doesnt even burn them to dvd video, just copies the files to a dvd).

i agree. I want it to be able to burn the dvd in less than 30 minutes if a 4x burner. I do know that nero has a API that I can "attempt" to write a program that uses that will create the menu from a command line and burn it. I just have to make sure that the audio and video are in sych.

being able to burn an audio cd from a playlist would be a cool feature.

i dont care about the menus, since a dvd recorder (vhs style one, not a computer one) doesnt do menus, and menus arent that important really. it would be cool if you could add the chapter points from the .comskip file in thou (thats why i originally looked at dvdauthor, you could well do everything via the command line, menus, chapter points, errr anything else.).
