Bios gets reset

Of late, my BIOS is getting reset to factory defaults... I have to go through and change all of the settings again (for example, remove floppy as the first boot in the order)... this is messing up my pc and ability to use gbpvr. any thoughts?

I would guess the motherboard is a few years old and needs a new battery.

or

you are overclocking it and it periodically doesn;t like the settings.

what mobo is it?

hmmm.. motherboard battery... that's probably it (pc is about 5 years old)... question is, how do i find the battery and change it?

It's flat, round and siver coloured - about 2.5mm thick and 20mm in diameter and it will probably have CR2032 on it someplace...

Disconnect your machine from the power, take the side panel (or top cover) off your box, and it should be in there someplace - it's usually held onto the MB by some sort of clip...

If you are not confident of doing it yourself, take the box to a local PC supplier and have them do it for you.

I was going to guess at 5 years old. That appears to be the common age for them to fail.

The battery is a round silver disc about 20mm in diameter, mounted in a black plastic round holder. It is commonly in the area near the hard disk and floppy connectors.

You press down on a small metal tab and it will fall out. You should be able to get a replacement quite easily.

Ahh, yes, you beat him, but with incorrect information

I wouldn't call it "incorrect", he did say "about 2.5 mm". Unless you are into nano technology, 3.2 mm is "about 2.5 mm".
