I am trying to see if I can find someone with Python knowledge who is willing to help in writing a plugin for XBMC that will connect to the GBPVR database. The immediate goals are not very ambitious, I was just thinking something that can connect to the database and get information for the recordings, then, sort it by user preferences, (Title, Date, Genre, etc.) When a user picks a video, the script will translate the local path to a smb path and play the video from the smb share. I have plenty of other ideas of things that can be done, but I think this will be a nice start. please reply to this thread if you are interested and have the knowledge.

Thanks.

Firstly, I think you'll find some threads in the Forum relating to this and your ideas.

Secondly I agree, it would have been good to have some kind of hook up between GBPVR and XBMC but let's not forget that XBOX Modding brings about a whole set of infringement of rights/copyright issues etc! Mr Gates has made sure these are covered by International Law.

Thirdly my point! I'm sure if someone wanted to push forward a Python Dev for GBPVR on XBMC they would but given points 1 + 2 and the Dev time is it worth it?

Point 4: I entirely agree with you, I think a modded XBOX is absolutely an underrated machine, it is a shame it is outlawed.

you could of course be running xbmc on linux then there are no legal issues with xbox modding

I have been trying it out recently and it seems to be good for what I want

but gbpvr still simply just works

Exactly, as well as windows and MacOSX. These ports are getting very mature (although still in alpha stage) but this would be perfect to have gbpvr as a backend and xbmc on linux/win/macosx as a frontend.

Currently there is native support for mythtv built into xbmc and i have been looking at the source to see how easy it would be to port that to use gbpvr. So far i'm very confused Tongue It's been a long time since my c++ skills were used...

Thanks for the responses. I never even thought about the legal issues, oh well, I will keep my ideas in the backburner, and perhaps this will happen in the future.

I am able to access everything via SMB, and using the rename tools for gbpvr I am able to add the subtitle to the episodes... Oh man, I just found out that the comskip files created by GBPVR and Comskip are 100% supported by the XBMC player... THis is just too sweet!!!

I think I just got away with eliminating TIVO and not having my wife divorce me.. Thanks GBPVR. If I can get the XRecord to work and set priorities for conflict resolution, then this will be better than TIVO.

My point is, the current support for SMB shares in XBMC is useful enough to make the xbox a fully functional GBPVR frontend. I even tried to stream videos over the wireless connection and it is flawless.
