With the latest release providing some TS enhancements, I thought I try an establish a thread to discuss benefits and issues of using TS over other formats including DVR-MS and MPG.
From personal experience I tried using MPG MUX and found it to problematic and had stability issues. I also had a weird problem which appeared to make the GB continue recording even after the show had finished. I have duplicated this on number of occassions with different versions of GB, but I fear this issue is unique to my setup. I hence stayed with DVR-MS. DVR-MS offered better playback & stability and support for AC-3 but had some of its own issues. For example, some software failed to work properly with DVR-MS and either required conversion to MPG first or required using special patched versions of software.
I recall (but I could be incorrect), DVR-MS does not support file streaming so you are limted to filesharing mode on the client. In using file sharing, you could not watch live tv or watch a show whilst it was recording on the client (i think?).
For TS;
How does stablity compare ?
Does it support AC-3?
Is playback smooth?
Any issues with broken timeline and/or incorrect reporting of show length?
Any problems with searching during playback?
Does it work with most codecs (in AUS we use MPG 2, not h.264 encoding)?
Any lip sync probs?
Does it work in client and/or file sharing mode?
Are there any software compatibility issues?
Does it support both file sharing and streaming?
Does it support live preview mode on a client machine?
Does it support playback while recording on client machine?
Any others issues worth mentioning?
