These are questions that I can't find the answers to in the wiki or the forums.

1) How do I configure GB-PVR to use EWA? (I haven't gotten it installed yet). Specifically, in the Configuration/Capture Sources/Create Recording Source/EPG source box: Do I have to select a particular entry (ScheduleDirect, XMLTV Plugin, or DVB EPG Broadcast)? If I have the choice I would use ScheduleDirect.

2) Do I have to download something to use EWA? What? I thought the point of EWA is that I could use my web browswer instead of installing an application.

3) What is PVRX2? Is it something I have to use for EWA?

PVRX2.exe is the new name for the application executable file. It replaces gbpvr.exe which as of this month is no longer available to install. Not something to worry about.

You still need to install GB-PVR to use EWA, you just don't need to have the application open on screen. See http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Config/Misc2 for how to set it up (look in the Web Scheduling section)

This is the setup for the TV guide (which the GB-PVR application and web admin can use). I don't know much about US guide sources, but I know alot of people use the (paid for) SchedulesDirect service.

GB-PVR is made u of several programs. PVRX2 is considered the User interface: the screen that you would use to watch TV, look at the guide, schedule shows and other...

EWA is another User Interface using a web browser.

You should still install and configure GB-PVR as if you would use PVRX2.exe. In some cases, if you're not intending on watching shows through that interface, you don't have to worry if you have display problems. (codecs, rendering, video card settings etc) But you will still need to coinfigure tuners and an EPG (if you intend on recording or viewing a TV Guide)

Once GB-PVR is functioning correctly, EWA will work very well for you, after enabling the Web interface, as McBainUK mentioned, and sort any potential firewall issues if any.

If you intend on viewing your shows using the EWA you may also need a streaming player like VLC...

This doesn't actually explain anything.

Well, technically, it says "Remember to open up the ports on your router and firewall if necessary." I don't know how to do that. "http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/" just gives me an error message.

Then it says "Check out the Enhanced Web Administration page too." So I did. It says "Use the standard GB-PVR Config application to: enable on the Web Admin utility, set the username, set the password required to access the web-interface, and set the port that the Web Admin will be made available on. These settings are found on the Misc tab within the GBPVR configuration utility."

It doesn't explain what "Enable NMT Client Extensions" means. And What user name and password am I supposed to use? Is it the login for my ScheduleDirect account? If not, what is it? And it still doesn't tell me how to set the port.

you make up any password you like if you enter from outside your house(local network) you will be asked for a password
you still need to enter a password regardless where you are accessing from to get it working

the localhost can be substituted for the ip number of your server machine(machine you do your recording on)

so open up a webpage on a laptop or machine other than your server machine
enter in the address bar http ://192.168.1.3:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx

192.168.1.3 is the local ip number of your server

if you get this going first before trying outside of your house

Yes it does. But here's a simple guide to setting up the GB-PVR web server:
1. Tick "Enable GB-PVR web server"
2. Leave the port as default
3. Untick NMT as you won't need it.
4. Enter a username and password OF YOUR CHOICE.
5. On the same PC as you have installed GB-PVR on open up a browser and go to http ://ocalhost:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx

Quote:Remember to open up the ports on your router and firewall if necessary
This is only required if you want to see the webserver from outside your house/network. As stustunz said, first step is to get the web admin working from the local machine.

That was uncommonly nice of you to ask, Uncle. Thanks.

Basically I did get past the first hurdle, but the TV Guide is blank.

Secondly, when I perform a search, the shows I ask for appear even though there's no Program Guide. I don't mind that; in fact, I want to try using Saved Searches. How often does it perform a search, and at what time of day? Is there any place that lists my "upcoming recordings" so I know its working?

Actually, when I run GB-PVR the TV guide is blank there too. I do have a ScheduleDirect account, and the searches do return shows, but the time-and-channel guides (both in the regular application and the EWA) are blank.
