Hi there. I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I've read through the forum, tried all the suggestions, but just can't seem to access EWA from another computer.

I have the latest GBPVR running and configured -- under Vista Home Prem.

I'm using the default port.

I CAN access EWA locally using:
http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx
and
http://192.168.1.39:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx

I cannot access from another machine connected on the same router either via wired or wireless using:
http://192.168.1.39:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx
or
http://pvr-vista:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx

However, the machine is shared on the network and accessible for files:
\\pvr-vista\Recordings\
\\192.168.1.39\Recordings\

I've tried to connect with both a Vista and an XP machine using IE 7.

When I try to connect, I get the standard IE page "IE cannot display the webpage"
If I click the 'Diagnose Connection Problems"
"I get Windows has confirmed -- online not responding -- Windows has confirmed that Windows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this connection."

Anyway, the Firewall is turned off on the PVR machine, I've installed no other security software on it (as of yet.) It's a (fairly) fresh machine -- a Compaq factory refurbish with the Trial version of Norton uninstalled as well as most of the rest of the bloat 'free and trial-ware' that came installed.

..I've also allowed the service to interact with the desktop, but that didn't help either Sad

Thanks in advance for any tips or hints that might get this working. Is there a log file that might help out?

Thanks
-Jim

Hmm, interesting. Have you tried:
http://192.168.1.39:7647/gbpvr/Login.aspx

Maybe try turning the firewall back on and just add gb-pvr to the exceptions list?

make sure you are sign in as admin with rights to all users been able to change files
and share your gbpvr folder as a separate share
turn all firewalls off for testing
double check that you can change files in both directions on both machines

when you sign in do you have passwords on all machines ?
if you have used the "control userpasswords2" make sure you have used the current user name to auto sign in

could the web server not be attaching to the externally visible network connection? (shooting in the dark, purely from a troubleshooting perspective, I have not used the EWA)

Thanks for all your suggestions...

> is the firewall off on the second pc too?
Yes, well, it is now. Smile

> Hmm, interesting. Have you tried: http://192.168.1.39:7647/gbpvr/Login.aspx
Yes, I tried different capitalizations also

>Maybe try turning the firewall back on and just add gb-pvr to the exceptions list?
Tried that one too. Sad

>What's the IP of this machine?
192.168.1.24, so, same subnet.

> make sure you are sign in as admin with rights to all users been able to change files and share your gbpvr folder as a separate share
Yep. It took some time to get the sharing working without asking for a password/login. I can (and do) transfer shows to another machine to burn to DVDs.

> could the web server not be attaching to the externally visible network connection?
Could be. It's definitely some setting on that machine, I just don't know where to look. Is there some .net configuration?

I added the computer to the routers firewall port forwarding to see if I could access it from outside (work) and got the same problem.. I also ran (temporarily) another http server on port 98, forwarded the port and could see it externally. The (very tiny) server I used was written in C++/MFC about 10 years ago and has never failed to display a simple html page yet... :-) . So, I would guess it's some .net server configuration issue.. Some service not started?

Thanks

What version of GB-PVR are you using? I'm still on 1.2.9. Too lazy to upgrade, and that version of GB-PVR works marvelously for me (including EWA) hence, I'm sticking to my outlook: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

From the non-GBPVR machine does:

  • Doing a ping to the GBPVR machine work?
  • Doing a tracert to the gbpvr machine work?

Do you have the option in GPBVR Config tab to allow auto-login from local network?
