The 45-button remote on my Nova-T PCI works great. But when I later installed a Nova-T USB, it 'took over' and I had to try pointing the remote at the pesky thing behind the PC! half sorted this by deleting the USB device in the WinTV application, and now the PCI IR sensor is working again. BUT the USB stick still picks up the remote, and unexpected things can happen; the usb stick sensor does not appear to be affected by changes to IRemote.ini? For example pressing the TEXT button brings up the stats of the currently playing video, but if the USB stick picks it up first, pressing TEXT causes the play to stop and a return to main menu
As I am contemplating adding a third tuner (PCI), my question is; How to dictate which sensor is used?
And how does the USB stick remote still work even if Irremote.ini is deleted?

I have solved similar problems by editing the registry at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hauppauge\IR

and changing the value of the IRPort key.

Good Luck

Blimey I did not know this was so complicated! Prompted by Graham's post about HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hauppauge\IR -thank you - I did some googling and found threads like this one:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19904
It seems to boil down to pot luck which card is used if more than one PCI card is present, and I don't see any reg change that will stop the USB IR working...
I think the easiest option will be to put some tape over the IR receiver.
Or, in device manager, I see that there are two IR devices listed - Nova-T IR using hcw95rc.sys driver (the USB stick), & WinTV 88x IR decoder using hcw88rc5.sys. I may try deleting the USB driver...
Still I am puzzled how the USB stick works, if it is not using Irremote.ini?
