I'm using PDVD7 decoder hardware acceleration to playback my H.264 media over my 8600GT card (Forceware 169.21).

It works fine with 1080i but I get dropped frames with 720p. Same problem using PDVD and GBPVR to playback.

Since CPU is not a problem so I'm at a lost as to what else I can do to get 720p working. Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Pretty much the only things that are going to have an impact on this are the video decoder and/or video renderer, so try different combinations of these. Also try with hardware acceleration disabled to see if it makes any difference.

whats your actual refresh rate set to ? 1280x720@50hz (has to be this not 60Hz)
also vertical sync under 3d settings should be forced on

when you say dropped frames what exactly does it look like
is it a jump
tear in the picture
a freeze
how often?

What OS and renderer combination are you using?

XPsp3 with VMR9 Custom renderer.

I need to clarify that I am viewing on my monitor not a TV. It is connected by DVI and has a resolution 1680x1050x60Hz. Dropped frames is noticeable as "jumping" in the video and I use fraps to measure the framerate which is never steady at 50fps.

It is much better in a small windowed mode at 50fps most of the time but pretty bad at full screen mode between 20-50. Forcing Vert Sync didn't make any difference.

How do I turn of Hardware Acceleration in GBPVR?

Its usually a setting in the video decoder you're using.

you will get a jump every so often with 60hz
as it has to try and make the 25frames a second go into 60
needs to be 25 50 75 100 etc

the wait for vertical sync gets rid of tearing i wasnt sure exactly you meant by dropped frames

I can understand that 60Hz is not a multiple of 25 but how come then 1080i works perfectly and I'm getting 50fps consistently?

interlacing maybe hides it better cause the frame rate that you see is effectively higher
which is the whole reason interlacing came about in the first place

Just an update. I've upgraded to the latest Nvidia drivers and all my problems went away Smile
