I know this has been brought up before, but I have yet to see someone add anything to the wiki or provide a definitive solution.

I am using a Hauppauge HVR-1250 tuner card on Verizon FiOS TV, which on 1.2.9 works (GB-PVR thinks it is a 1850), but on 1.2.13 I get varied results on a channel scan. It almost never finds any channels with PSIP data (the local HD channels). I can perform the scan 10 times and get 10 different results.

I recently setup a new box and ended up installing 1.2.9 then doing the channel scan, mapping them, then upgrading to 1.2.13. Just want to document this for anyone else, so they don't waste HOURS screwing with 1.2.13 QAM.

I'm not aware of any changes between 1.2.9 and 1.2.13 that should account for any differences in scanning results, and havnt seen any widespread comments to make me think there is a problem in this area, though make sure you have the patch from the survival guide relating to scanning.

What happens exactly - channels entirely missing, or the names are "Unknown" (making them hard to identify)?

Channels are missing. Since all I was really looking for was the HD locals (which have PSIP) those are the ones I was primarily looking for.

Theres not really much info to go on in this thread, but if you post the scan logs (config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log) from a scan with both 1.2.9 and 1.2.13, then I'll take a look and see if I cant tell you more.

I am using a Hauppauge HVR-1250 tuner card on Comcast, and I wasted many hours trying to get 1.2.13 to detect any QAM channels. If there is a dummie's guide or a post that details the steps I need to follow in order to successfully upgrade, it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you get QAM channels in the Hauppauge WinTV software?

If so, then do a scan in GB-PVR's config app, then zip and attach the config.exelog and config.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

They don't show a damn thing as far as I see...

The channel scan does one of two things, it either crashes on QAM channel 71 (which is where the HD locals start) or will just find nothing on those channels. The most logical reason for this is either the PSIP data is crashing the channel scan or the act of tuning to an HD channel is doing it.

If I use 1.2.9 it finds them every time.

Unfortunately Verizon is changing it's channel lineup, so kind of need to do a channel rescan and I am tired of uninstalling 1.2.13 and going back to 1.2.9 then upgrading and setting everything back up. Sad

From the survival guide for 1.2.13 this patch for scanning might be important.

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=7

If that doesn't work, in the same thread I posted the method to scan using TS Mux just like in 1.2.9 and then how you can turn the new TS Mon back afterwards.

The patch does keep it from crashing (didn't apply since the last time I downgraded > upgraded). Found your instructions to try to make 1.2.13 scan like 1.2.9 and that didn't work. It still does not find the HD channels.

I ordered a Avermedia A180 which should be here in a day or so... I will see if it gives a different result than the HVR-1250. If not I guess I will downgrade again.

REALLY appreciate all your assistance Martin.
