Hi, I've attached a screenshot showing motion blurring while watching a sports event (I think the camera was probably panning at the time).
This is DVB-T in NZ, Live TV, captured with an HVR2200, playback with an 8500GT card (watching on PC CRT monitor). I've seen worse blurring than this.

Can anyone tell me whether they think this can be improved upon? It's a bit crap Sad

Yup I have similar problems with a NOVA-T-500 and NVIDIA 8600GT, have experienced some improvements by trying different videocard drivers (175.19 was CRAP, currently using 177.92 with EVR turned off) and trialing the NVIDIA PURE drivers but Im still getting some blur during rapid panning that im not happy with, so i would also appreciate any advice on how to improve the quality!

Thanks for the comment, thought it about time to look for driver updates...

This is where I'm confused (trying to get to the bottom of this) - under the windows driver settings for my 8500gt I have v6.2.1.xxx (or whatever, the exact number I don't have at the moment). But on the leadtek site the latest driver is "162.18". Grrr, why do they use different numbering conventions, arggg, anyone know how these two version numbers relate?

(I suspect the one on their website is no improvement anyway since it's dated 2007/9/14 and yet I got my card only a few weeks ago so I'd assume the drivers CD was at least that current...)

cant help you on the driver naming conventions, its got me beat to!

you could try http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_177.92_beta.html

is where I sourced the latest beta drivers for my card (XP version) but rivers for Vista are also available here

Usaully you get this info by pressing {ctrl}O - or the text key on Hauppage remotes.

have you tried turning all your 3d settings lower or off then turning them back on one by one
wait for vertical sync should be forced on (but this is normally only if you have tearing)

refresh rate should be 50hz or 100hz as you are using monitor (this is more for jumpiness)

what renderer are you using?

I had the same thing initially - after changing and tweaking on the decoders (I settled in on purevideo) the blurring is completely gone & action looks normal.

One of the better tests I found for verifying that it was working well (without having to wait for a sporting event) was to find a news station with a ticker along the bottom. If it looked crisp and smooth, so did everything else. If it looked blurred, slow motion, and was not smooth - then I had work to do.

It took quite a bit of tweaking to find all the correct settings - and I usually break it any time I download new drivers, but once it was all nailed down, it was well worth it -- as it sits, you can't tell my video is anything but real-time straight off the cable.

Yep we have all used trial and error to find a good combination of decoders and settings.
One thing to check is denoise in the video card driver settings. For some reason both Nvidia and ATI have it on as default and set very high - 64% denoise in the ATI drivers! Many recommend turning it off altogether, either in the driver settings page, or through the registry. Denoise usually = blurred, especially on moving images. With it on I notice the 'slippery wig' effect, where someone moves their head and their hair seems to move a bit later!
