Okay so I have all the files that I think that I need here I am having much trouble though trying to get started. So lets get dow to what I have done so far.
1. installed gamezone on HTPC like wiki suggested
2. dropped patch dll in the gamezon directory in Devenz/GBPVR location
3. I have created a directory structure that will house all ROMs. it is at C:\Softoware\Roms(each game is in a subfolder here)
4. Setup a rom path to the above from the config added rom|bin as the file extensions.
5. Followed screen on the wiki of a basic mame setup.
6. set mame path and built Rom Database.

Mame now shows up in the Gamezone portion of GBPVR except when you go to it no games show up to play.
Later I will be installing a Phillips wireless game controller.

Can someone please send me their Mame Extension string, I downloaded several games and they all seem to have weird extensions and some have no extensions.

What do i do next? I am kind of stumped. Thanks for the help

Other tidbits here there are several videos out on Youtube on how to run mame there are not to many on command line mame mostly on Mame32 which I installed and used works great with my rom set.
Note: you have to keep the roms that you download in the .zip format to be able to run them.
Still not sure on how to get Gamezone to see my roms. Other questions are how do you get the game to input the OK at the begining of a starting ROM? I will be running this from a true HTPC with no keyboard or mouse.
Other question is is it possible to have two controllers to play against each other? I am suspecting not. Thanks.

I am kind of stumped too, I am trying to follow what you are doing and my first thing is why have you decided to give each game a directory? I hadn't really anticipated anyone doing that.

I have a direcory for my Mame ROMs and trow all my rom zip files and the bios zip files in the one directory and let gamezone sort it out.

for the extension I use:
chd|zip

I have some hard drive image games which have the chd extension many people can get away with just zip

you are keeping the roms as zip archive files??

Can't recall 100% try clicking on skipgameinfo option on the mame tab in the config. if not I think you can also just go left then right with your direction controls??

Gamezone is only a frontend launcher if the game you are playing allows you to have two player mode then setup the game to use two controllers and enjoy.

The intention is that you can use gamezone from a HTPC with only a remote control (IR) and a game controller know mouse or keyboard is demanded.

Cheers

I meant to say each game emulator has its own game directory. I have a Roms/Mame
Roms/ePSX folder and in each of these I am putting the appropriate game files like in this Roms/Mame folder I am putting all of the zips so not a directory for each game. sorry for the confusion.
Sorry if I am Hijacking a bit I am still trying to get it to work I understand that Gamezone is a front end launcher I am just trying to get additional emu info at the same time so i dont have to go to all of the different forums seeking my answer I figured it would be easier for the next person that has to go down this path to have all the info in one place.

Yes if My Mame roms come down as zip files then I am keeping them as Zip files.

Do I have to set a screenshot directory and have a screenshot to get the game to show in gamezone. So far it is not showing the games.

it can easily get confusing when discussing these types of things Big Grin

Did you try setting the extention to

for the extension I use:
chd|zip

as I suggested.

To be honest, ALL my mame games are zip files I would expect everyone elses to be also, what other extentions do you have? perhaps sending me PM with a link to an example that you have downloaded and i'll see what the issue is?

Cheers

ok the principle here is unless the emulator tab within the gamezone config has a snapshot directory that you can set then you should put your .jpg/.png image files in the same directory as your romfiles.

hope that helps

P.S. once you have got your head around things and have them working on your system are you willing to update the wiki perhaps an emulator at a time with clear newbie tips on setting up? that would be REALLY helpful!

So I am trying to get Mame to run games out side of gamezone and it wont even do that I get file not found messages on everything I run. Yes i am leaving them in the zip format but winzip is not isntalled on this comp, is that a problem. I even DL some .127 v roms and tried those and they did not work.
Also when I set Gamezone to set res it crashed my comp turning that off made it much better. Thanks for the help.
