Maybe a stupid question, but I haven't really found in any of the threads I've been looking through.

Do I need a hard drive in the PCH to be able to use MVPCX2?

No, you dont. I am running two PCHs with GBPVR and I have no hard drives in them.

All info is streamed from your network on a telnet connection. At least thats how i understand it.

I'd go as far as saying that if you are planning primarily on using GBPVR together with a PCH, a diskless solution would be recommended, because of reduced cost, noise, and heat.

Note that telnet is not used at all in connecting GBPVR and the PCH. It was strictly enabled earlier to help debugging but now it is not really a necessary part of the system, but it can still be helpful for other things.

So how do we run mvpmcx2 without telnet? The starter file I have needs to have telnetd run first or GBPVR won't load...

I have collapsed telnet.cgi and gbpvr.cgi into gbpvr.cgi I just haven't released it. I am sure if you remove utelnet from

I wasn't supporting this initially while I was debugging difficulties, but I would say all the problems now are related to improper configuration of the server and this is now longer necessary.

Martin,

When do you think you will release this new version? It would be so nice not having to start teletd before starting GBPVR after a PCH reset.

Thanks,

I haven't thought to much about a date it is pretty low priority for me as I am working on an NSIS installer and configuration program for first time users right now, then I will change the documentation and the scripts together.

OK So I have just bought a PCH with a 200GB HDD.

Would it be worth removing the HDD and putting it in the server instead?

I was planning to copy all the kids DVD's to it so they could run from there, but this could also be streamed from the server I guess.

Actually If you are planning on viewing DVD's that you have purchased a good solution since DVD's aren't streamed they would played from a share or in this case they would play locally. You could even start a DVD from the PCH interface if you have to tinker with the server.

You will have more problems watching those DVD's on other GBPVR clients though, but do you really want to see Shrek again?
