To get my MVP to work with GBPVR without disabling Windows XP's firewall completely, I had to open up a bunch of ports:
App Type Port #
-----------------
NTP UDP 123
MVP UDP 31100
MVP Tftp UDP 16869
MVP TCP GUI 5906
MVP TCP 31099
MVP Service Locator UDP 16881
MVP Media UDP 6337
MVP Media TCP 6337
MVP PBPVR TCP 8337
MVP GBTray TCP 4256
MVP GBRec TCP 7968
MVP GB Rec TCP 7967
MVP BootP UDP 16868
MVP Boot UDP 67
MVP Boot UDP 16867
In addition, I added the following apps to the exception list:
App GBPVRTray.exe
App GBPvrRecordingService.Exe
App GBPvr.exe
App PVXR2.exe
This was all done through trial and error, so I can't say for sure that all these need to be open.
The other thing you could check is which dongle.bin you're using...
