Any word if Sayabas has decided to implement play back of Netfix

I saw this article today and thought it would be a good time to ask.

http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/15992.cfm

"Netflix has announced the hiring of former Macrovision Solutions executive Greg Peters in an effort to secure more video-streaming deals.

Peters will become VP of partner product development and report to current Netflix chief product officer Neil Hunt.

"Greg's expertise in all aspects of the product development lifecycle—from vision to design to implementation—will be a significant asset to Netflix and our partners as we push toward our goal of eventually enabling all U.S. households to stream Netflix to their TVs," Hunt said.

Netflix has gone on a tear recently securing deals with Samsung, TiVo, Microsoft, Disney and Starz, all in an effort to boost their "Watch Instantly" streaming service. The library currently has over 12,000 titles available with another 3000 titles expected by the end of the year"

They were working on it but now that the Silverlight player is beta, they would be wasting their time, to be honest. They may be better off approaching Netflix directly.

I'm not familiar with the Silverlight player, how would that effect the implementation of Netflix playback on NMT

The Silverlight player uses a different DRM encryption scheme.

There are really two answers here. Using whurlston's plugin it was hoped that the DRM content could be downloaded to the PCH retaining the DRM that would in the end be decoded by the PCH. Syabas was working on this.

If Netflix move to support the Microsoft <rant on> proprietary DRM Windows only crap </rant on> Silverlight format this won't be possible.

Nothing is stopping Syabas from doing what the Roku Player is doing, but you would loss whurlston's interface and I shudder of how bad the Syabas implementation would be.

The best bet for this plugin to work on the PCH is to ask Netflix to the stick with wmv files. Playon's UPnP hacking might make this impossible.

If they did this and allowed me to pass a movie ID to play, I would be extremely happy with that.

I think Silverlight is cross platform. Certainly more cross platform then the current DRM'd WMV files are.

And Silverlight is it, folks. On my slow PVR box, Silverlight stutters more then Porky Pig singing Hey Jude (thanks for some great imagery, Dennis Miller!).
I asked about getting out of the beta, and they said no, everything was going that way so get used to it.

Looks like I'll have to finally upgrade.

I think Silverlight still delivers the content primarily as wmv.

Silverlight delivers separate streams for audio (WMA) and video (WMV) but it uses a new DRM encryption. The Netflix audio streams do not appear to be encrypted, only the video streams.
