Great news.
I am going to test AVIVO out now. Mind you, speed was never the problem with AVIVO, it was Speed vs quality that was the issue. We will see. There are some big performance boost claims for gamers as well.

I converted a 65min show in 5mins to MPEG4, max quality, reducing a 1.6Gb file to 880MB. Quality looks ok. Not sure how this speed compares with the earlier version of Avivo as I didn't try it on this new pc.
However, on my 4670 the GPU load stays at 0, GPU temp stays the same, clock speed sits in 2d mode at 165Mhz. So it doesn't look like it is using any fancy steam processor tech.

did you dl the separate Avivo package also? [doesn't come with full display driver]
have to go to separate dl and get 'complete avivo package for x1000 and above' to get the new 8.12 avivo going...[at least that's how it used to be] tho from your stats it sounds faster...5 mins for a 65 min show? was that hd or sd? if hd then that's a marked increase in speed...usually takes around 20 mins for a whole hour show at least...[and not much different for sd] not sure if it shows up in gpu usage stats in driver, as it does it's work behind the gpu scenes and may not register as true gpu usage..we shall see tho.. [dl'ing now]

I didn;t need to install the seperate xcode package, it was already included.
I also installed the seperate package but it made no difference. The source was SD (sorry I forgot to mention that) Both CPUs were at 100% when encoding (so it least it is multi-threaded). 5mins is good but 800mb for 1hr at "average" quality isn;t. If the stream processors are loaded up, I would expect core temp to rise and for the core to switch to full speed. Still no sign of the old Avivxcode.exe so no possibility for integrating with gbpvr. Same old crappy AVIVO interface no H264 present. if anyone else's experience is different, I may be tempted to remove and reinstall but it seems like the AVIVO of old to me. fast but so-so quality and big files. I suspect it is just throwing away b-frames rather than actually doing any real clever compression.

same here......tho 5 mins even for sd is quite a bit faster...
but the locked formats and lack of control over output resolution, etc are the real deal breakers...everything output in mpeg2 gets resized to 640x480?! baffling..lol [you can control the process completely if you build your own graphs] guess for now it's stick to ffmpeg...it still does a great job, if a bit sluggishly...it's reliable.. i bet cyberlink or one of the other partners will make something usefull... tho we'll be lucky if it's anything command-line usable..

I messed around with an old standalone version and got h264 working. Its buggy on the buttons mabe someone can fix it.Heres some caps mpg is orginal 1080i 363mb Letterman recording of Taylor Swift.Picks are name by file type quality is not bad no reduction and took 4:23 for a 3:23 video.cpu was at 66% and no stream but I do have a 3870.

Is the transcoding supposed to work with non HD stream thingy cards? I'm assuming x1000 includes x1650 but it just crashes as soon as I hit transcode on my system.

It transcoded an HD movie of mine at full quality to .264 in 38 minutes so very fast. It used 100% of the CPU so I doubt it used hardware encoding. Quality is so-so but good for that speed. Does anyone know the command line options? The control is not very comprehensive and they have killed the graphEdit interface which previously gave better control.
