Not a GBPVR issue, but since you all are so smart Big Grin
The last real bug my new client has is that it will go into standby fine, but when I bring it out, it locks up. It looks like it comes out of standby fine and everything works, but in about 2 seconds, the HDD light comes on solid and in about 10 seconds the controls stop working and soon there after, the screen goes black. I can't seem to find out what is locking the HDD. The specs are listed below. Any ideas on troubleshooting?

When it comes out of standby, is gbpvr automatically started or still running?
In that case it could be a problem with the network not (yet) being available.

mmm...the joys of Vista.

I assume you have all the latest fixes from Microsoft. This was a known issue pre-SP1

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928135

Also, I assume you have the latest drivers for your hardware, esp. your video card. Obviously make sure they are the 64 bit versions -- not the 32bit ones Wink

If all that checks out OK -- post back.

BTW

Worth double checking the BIOS versions...the mobo is pretty new and I spotted this little gem in the ASUS support site...
(clicking on BIOS history)

[ 1302 ]
----------------------
1.Improve the memory performance when use certain CPU.
2.Fix the problem that the memory can not work on ECC mode when resume from S3
3.Update LAN option rom.
4.Set the RTC time to 24-hour system.

Thanks for the great ideas. As a note, this is a very basic setup with only gbpvr, vlc and a couple of other utilities installed. I tried stopping everything I could including recording service and it still does it coming out of standby. The only hardware it has is the DVD drive, and the HDD. It has onboard video. I even disconnected the usb keyboard and mouse and it still does it. I upgraded to the latest bios from ASUS and the latest ATI video drivers and it still does it. I will double check the bios version again. I am considering blowing everything out and reloading again but that really is the last resort. I appreciate all your comments.

Well I just rechecked the bios and I was not on the current one. I found that the web had a more current version than the ASUS update program would let me get. This one still has the same problem. Unfortunatley, it still is not the 1302 one that is showing in the revision history. Very strange. I am waiting for ASUS tech support to get back to me. I am not sure the bios update will help since it says it is for ECC mode and I have ECC disabled. (unless that is what the error is??)

Try this:

http://slicksolutions.eu/mst.shtml

Even if it does not solve the problem it logs all the standby activities and might point to what is causing the issue.

BTW The link sometimes times out, keep trying it.

I used to use MST when I was running MCE, it is very good at setting all the registry hacks for resuming from standby...Im not sure it will fix soccerdads problem -- but its always worth a try.

Is there any events of "interest" in the system event log after the problem has occurred ?

Sorry if I confused you, this is my client machine, not the server which has all the cards in it. The client specs are kind of hidden at the end of my sig. Thanks for all your help, as usual. Smile

I will look into MST and see if it tells me anything. I will also look into the system event logs.

Thanks again.

I got it working. There was not anything useful from any logs (but I do like MSTSmile) Asus tech support(?) told me it was a bad motherboard and to RMA it. I looked in the BIOS and noticed that the HDD was listed as the Slave and the DVD drive was the Master. They are both old IDE as they were recycled for the client and I had them on cable select. I reset the HDD to master and the DVD to slave and it now works like a charmSmile. Vista reloaded both the dvd and HDD drivers when it booted so it was either the cable issue, or the driver reload that fixed it.

Thanks for all your help. I learned a lot and even got MST out of the deal.Cool
