I came accross a handy DVR-MS editor program. I have attached the exe and dll's.
Original site has source code if required.

Nothing fancy, but handy for manual cutting of commercials or trimming start/end.

Is there any reason to be using dvrms? Does it offer any compatability or quality that I'm missing?

TS-Mux is probably a better option but I have had problems with ts-mux playback to an MVP. Recording to mpg has given me audio sync problems and dvr-ms has been the most reliable option for me with recordings.

When I get around to setting up something like Z-Tools to transcode ts-mux to the MVP I will probably switch.

Dvr-ms files are basically just mpeg files in an ASF "wrapper" (although dvr-ms and the stream buffer engine can be more complex than that).

One advantage is the 'stream buffer sink' (the Directshow filter used to create them) is a combined mux and file-writer and is actually very stable (well done MS Rolleyes). I use dvr-ms as my preferred way of recording dvb-t as I often had problems with the Cyberlink mux in the past (unhandled exceptions or failed / 0KB recordings etc.) - the SB sink has never failed on me.

There are some disadvantages to dvr-ms in my experience - the files generally playback OK on my MVP but trying to watch 'in progress' recordings is often a problem (not something I tend to do but WAF comes into it). I have gbpvr set to auto-convert to mpeg2 immediately on completion but find that in most cases, using FF on the MVP to get past adverts etc. causes loss of AV sync. I can get that back by skipping back/forward a couple of times but it's a pain sometimes.

If you're happy with your current setup then I wouldn't bother with dvr-ms but if stability is an issue then try it out.

EDIT: Just as an addition wrt the editor - if anyone is interested in Directshow programming (in particular in a managed code environment) or wants to play with dvr-ms, Steve Toub's articles and code are very good.

Cheers,
Brian
