Looks like some of the larger players are now supplying them.

You're right -by the time you've addded a hard drive, you could build a decent client for that price;

Total £240!
OK not as attractive as a PCH, but this is pretty much the same as the PC I have tucked behind my LCD TV - and you can't see it at all!

Put anything behind my TV and within a week you wouldn't be able to see it for the dust. :eek: Big Grin

As for attractive - we really must re-open the fishtank / mineral oil thread. I reckon something like that would be way prettier than even the PCH.

Cheers,
Brian

If I ever get around to buying a PCH, I'll need to spend at least a week modding the case before I could let Mrs ACTCMS see it (at the very least I'd have to make it look like a very tastefully small stack of DVDs - or maybe just a toaster)

I'm not really sure about the Fishtank - have you any idea what the Vet charges to fix a sick fish:eek:

I was quietly impressed with the mineral oil thing though...

FWIW other suggestions might include...
A sewing machine
A house made of lego
A bunch of flowers (in a nice vase)
A photo of the grandchildren

My machines are in the attic, so I don't really care about the noise, but it would be really nice to figure out a way to get the heat back, solar panel style - a PVR-panel sort of thing...

I think the 4-pin CPU & case fan headers supporting PWM fans is one of the best new developments in motherboards - now what bothers me is the hard drives spinning! Although the implementation does seem to vary from board to board; on my Gigabyte 780g the fans ramp seemlessly between 0rpm at <=20c to full speed >=55c.
But a more recent purchase, an ASRock board, was dissapointing as it ramps from 500rpm at 0c to full speed at 55c, so was much louder at normal temps. Luckily speedfan came to the rescue, so I disabled the on-board fan control. Though Speedfan works differently, as it really has just three speeds that you specify - the normal working speed, a higheer speed when temp goes over a set limit, and full speed when a top, critical temp is reached.
End result is the same though - cannot hear the fans in normal use.
