I just ordered a new Dell PC and I'm trying to figure out whats the best way to transfer my GBPVR setup to it with the least headaches. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My current operating system is WinXP, the new one will be Vista. I will transfer my Hauppauge PVR150 tuner card to my new PC. I use both a NMT and a MVP. I am thinking that I would do the following:
1. a fresh install of GBPVR and then copy the gbpvr.db3 & config.xml from the old pc to the new. Install .net 2.0 and microsoft run time.
2. I would have to download and install any additional skins or plugins.
3. I would copy the mvpmc directory over to the new computer. Setup any shares.
4. I believe with my old system I had to change something in Admin. Services for the gbpvr recording service, so I would have to do that also.
5. In my old PC I was able to play dvd's in my computers dvd drive and watch them on my tv through the nmt. My new PC will have a blu-ray drive so I hope can still use that feature.
To make the transition as smooth as possible I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks!

To start I personally would recommend using the NMTInstaller from the NMT dummies guide. It installs GB-PVR, the mvpmc share, changes the firewall and get all the patches from the survival guide. Then I would copy over the config.xml and gbpvr.db3

If your recordings directory was on a local drive you will have to move it too.

The Admin change you were thinking about might mean you changed the settings of the GB-PVR Recording service to run as a user so that you could access shares

From the NMT if you are changing static IP's

- select the new mvpmc share from the new computer
- you can copy over gbpvr.cgi if you want changing the IP for both mvpmc and the BR drive and any folders that you set up to play DVD's

Martin

If your recordings were on the system drive, make sure you place them in the same exact path on the new PC.

If they were on a seperate drive, make sure the drive is identified with the same letter on the new system.

Before you transfer everything, make sure you export your recordings & then transfer recordings-dump.xml

Once you have all the recordings moved to the new system, import them form the config app.

UPDATE: You could get away with a different recordings path on the new system, but you'd have to update the path for each recording in recordings-dump.xml prior to importing on the new system.

philly_phenom thanks for the advice. You got me thinking. I have a 200GB drive in my current system that is ata. This drive is filled with family videos. I believe my new system will have a sata interface. Does anybody know if there is a way to hook the old drive up in the new pc or will I have to just copy the old drive to the new one?

Most motherboards have legacy PATA support too, so I'd be surprised if you couldn't connect it.

I called and talked with someone from Dell and he indicated that I wouldn't be able to connect the PATA drive to the new system. Not sure if he knows what he's talking about. I guess I can check out the motherboard when I open the case to install the Hauppauge PVR card. Oh well, I really don't want to buy a new drive so I'll just copy the old drive to the single drive in the new PC.

Just got my new pc today. I used the NMTinstaller. The installation went smooth. I copied my old gbpvr.db3 & config.xml files into the new directory and then started up the config.exe to make a few changes relating to new directories for video files. When I try and access the computer through the PCH browser I get "No content found on server". I believe I have the mvpmc share set up correctly. The IP addresses for both the server and the PCH are the same. I rebooted the PCH but still no luck. Can anybody see what I'm missing?

"No content found" means the mvpmc share is not set up correctly since the GB-PVR.html file isn't showing up. The NMTInstall programs sets up a guest access but you do need to enable general guest sharing first for this to work.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I believe I have the share set-up so that anybody could access it. But they still don't show up on the PCH. Shares I have on a completely different computer that I store my videos on aren't showing up either. These shares worked previously.
