Having problems with 0.908 with my Nova-T 90002

Here's the background:

Win XP Home SP2
P4 1.7
512Mb Ram
Hauppauge Nova-T 90002 with the latest Hauppauge 1.3 drivers.

Clean install of GBPVR on this machine, never had gbpvr on it before as I don't have an analogue TV capture card.    Used to run gbpvr on my laptop to play mp3s throughmy MVP.

Installed ok.

In config, set BDA Recording Plug in, with correct region and transmitter in the Recording Source section.

EPG update ok with bleb.

After I hit Map digital channels to EPG channels button, first problem.

I get the warning box that I need to have the Cyberlink or Intervideo Mpeg2 Multiplexer filter installed.

Where can these codecs/filters be obtained from?  I have installed the MPEG codec from the Hauppauge support page for the 90002. This didn't help.

Following other posts in the forum, I installed Cyberlink PowerDVD trial. That didn't seem to contain the filter I need either.

Need some guidance on that one.

Next, if I click past the warning and try to scan for channels, the scanning starts, then at the end, I get an unhandled exception. (See attached file for details)

About 1 time in 20 the scan is successful, and I get three TV channels and about 6 radio channels.  (In the Hauppauge WinTV I get all the channels, both radio and TV)

I can then preview in the little window and assign these TV channels to EPG channels.

All ok(ish) so far, but when I start the app and try to view live TV, I get an "Error:Failure Playing Back File" message.  I also get a mpeg file on the HDD in the recordings folder, size 0 bytes

As I said, I've tried to find the codecs.  Need help on that one.
Can I not watch any TV at all without this codec issue sorted?

Will the codec issue be affecting my channel scan?
I've tried scanning All regions, All channels in the Capture source set up, but that never completes and I always get an unhandled exception. '0' is not a valid value for 'value'  If I continue past the exception, nothing works in the config app, so I have to quit and try again.

I've also tried a complete reinstall, with no improvement.

Don't want to bother people with a dumb problem, but I am out of ideas on this one, and I can't see any suggestions in the forum.

Can't wait to get it all working, cos it all looks soooo good!

TIA,

Simon

Yes, these are going to be a little difficult for users to find. GB-PVR isnt a commercial product, so cant cover the cost of licensing these components. The Intervideo mux is installed with WinDVD Creator. I'm not sure what Cyberlink's mux is installed with (not PowerDVD though). If you google for MpgMux.ax you may get lucky

The Nova-T seems to require the exact frequencies, wheras some cards are a little more forgiving. Find your file in c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\bda\dvb-t and edit it to contain the exact frequency (sorry, you'll need to do a little research here). Once you have the updated file, the scan should work correctly and you'll be able to map you channels and hopefully watch tv. Also, be sure to email me a copy of the file so I can include the updated version in the next release.

The crash is because the config app is incorrectly assuming that at least one channel will be found. I've fixed this for a next build.

Sub - UK DVB-t frequencies - Nova-t (old version) cards.

It appears that some cards with some tuner-units require that they be allowed to scan 166 kHz either side of the "official" frequency in order to secure a signal-lock. TechnoTrend have issued an update to their BDA files to resolve this issue when using their BDA application.

This won't help everyone, but FWIW here's a copy of my modified dvb-t ini file - 0076.ini - Winter Hill, Lancashire, UK.

[SCAN]
1=MHEG-5
2=LCN
[TERTYPE]
1=Borders and Northern England
2=Winter Hill
[DVB]
0=6
1=C56,754.166,0,0,2
2=C60,786.166,0,0,2
3=C63,810.166,0,0,2
4=C66,834.166,0,0,2
5=C67,842.166,0,0,2
6=C68,850.166,0,0,2

This pulls in all the stations just fine.

Google for the two words "MpgMux download" (without quotes). The first search result should point you in the right direction if you get the same results as I do.

Excellent, thanks for the help.

I've managed to get hold of the mpgmux.dll following your directions Brian. Where do I need to put it on my machine so gbpvr will find it? Does it need to be registered with the system at all?

After a little light googling, I've found the channel numbers and freqs I need for my local DVB transmitter.

5=C67,842.166,0,0,2
6=C68,850.166,0,0,2

What are the 0,0,2 settings in the ini file used for? Do I need to change them at all or leave as they are?

Thanks,

Simon

Just leave them as is. Actually I the same file can look like this (which is more in line with the rest of the files):

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ][DVB]
0=6
1=C56,754166,0,0,8
2=C60,786166,0,0,8
3=C63,810166,0,0,8
4=C66,834166,0,0,8
5=C67,842166,0,0,8
6=C68,850166,0,0,8
"8" is the band width. Just ignore the two zeros.

Put it somewhere that it isn't likely to be deleted. It needs to be registered...

regsvr32 MpgMux.ax

...from the Command Prompt.

Just to finish off the thread, here is my ini file to make GBPVR see all the same channels as WinTV2000.

Firstly I found the correct file in
Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\BDA\Dvb-t

which in my case was file 54.ini for Sutton Coldfield in the UK.

I then modified the sections under [DVB] as follows:
[DVB]
0=6
1=C41,634166,0,0,8
2=C44,658166,0,0,8
3=C47,682166,0,0,8
4=C51,714166,0,0,8
5=C52,722166,0,0,8
6=C55,746000,0,0,8

I obtained the six figure numbers (634166 etc) by looking at the channels WinTV2000 had tuned in.  In WinTV2000, go to Menu, then Suite Manager.  Select all channels, then scroll right in the window until you can see the frequency column.  These are the frequencies you need to put in the ini file in GBPVR.

Hope that helps,

Simon

Simon, if the hauppauge software ships with a set of text files that contains all these frequencies, any chance you could send a copy to me at support@devnz.com? Thanks.

Hi Sub,

I've had a hunt all over my HDD for any text files that Hauppauge use for frequency selection for DVB. Sorry, can't find any anywhere. When you tune in channels with the Hauppauge, you only select your country, not the area as well, so I guess they have basic frequency settings embedded in the WinTV2000 app.

The only handy thing is that you can see the frequencies it has tuned in for your area, so it is possible to work back and see which transmitter you are on, then input the frequencies into GBPVR. I'm sure if you asked the user base with DVB-T cards they could give you the correct frequencies for the transmitters they are using.

Let me know if you need any more help or any testing doing for DVB-T stuff.

Best regards,

Simon
