So how did everyone receiving US OTA digital do yesterday?

I had a few of my channels switch around noon, but the rest didn't switch until midnight. Given the hap-hazzard nature of this whole excercise, I'm surprised they all switched the same day. I didn't want to scan and map twice, so I just let the dead ones lie until they all switched.

As to which ones switched, I had about half of my main 12 channels move around... the original VHF-Hi channels all moved back to their original channels (7, 9, 11, 13), while the original VHF-Lo (2, 4, 5) channels stayed on UHF. I understand it's that way in most markets, because the VHF-Lo frequencies require a much larger antenna to receive well, and are more susceptible to impulse noise which wreaks havoc on digital streams. My UHF-optimized antenna doesn't get VHF-Lo well at all, but does quite well on VHF-Hi so this all worked well for me.

Channel 2 actually took the UHF channel 9 had been using (43), so for half the day we could still watch channel 2 by picking 9 from the guide.

On the upside of all of this, my channels all seem to come in better now. Specifically channels 7 and 13 (formerly on UHF 53 and 66 respectively) could not be received at all by my USB tuner before, now they come in perfectly. No doubt this a combination of the frequency change and an increase in broadcast power. So at last both of my tuners have all the channels.

Pretty well. I've had to rescan as some channels have moved, but all seem to be there.

I do have a problem. The channels have changed order in the TV guide listing.

Is there way to change the order of channels in the TV guide?

Maybe I should post in the support forum, but I still need to do a search of the forums/wiki first.

Maybe bad form answering my own post, but the answer can be found here:

The wiki could be updated to explain that the "Channel Number" column is editable.

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Config/Channels

I'm not sure who is allowed to edit the wiki.

answering your own post is very good form when you've found the answer. too many people fail to do that, and leave the issue open. well done.

that's a problem right now. the guy who apparently controls the wiki hasn't even logged in since march. I need wiki access myself, as I'm doing a little bit on the CS4 project and need to update the tasks page.

I had the same experience as you did Johnson, we must be in the same locale in California. I tried watching after 11am on Friday and some channels had already changed frequencies (channel 2 like you said) so I rescanned to update (I use LiveTV as my preferred TV watching method). I still could not pick up channel 13 but I had read that it was going to switch to a VHF frequency when all things were changed.

Come Saturday morning, I rescanned again, got the final changes and lo and behold, I was able to receive channel 13. Now I just need to clean out the old scanned channels from gbpvr and I'm good to go.

yeah, channel 13 was a tough one because it was on UHF 66. Those really high UHF channels don't transmit as far with the same power as VHF and the lower UHF channels do. I think that's part of why they re-assigned that frequency band (UHF 52-69) for more local use by mobile devices... they don't need to reach out 30+ miles with those devices, and a very small antenna is sufficient.
I had quite a bit of trouble with all of the upper UHF channels... now that they're all back down to reasonable frequencies every channel comes in with nary a hitch.

He did Big Grin

Unfortunately it took me a few days to get to it. I've just created his account a few minutes ago.

Dave, I'll PM you the details in a few minutes.

Blader_se is still officially doing thing stuff, but he doesnt visit the forums often these days (but still using GB-PVR v0.96 Big Grin). Unfortunately the website email wasnt working, so he never got the notification about the PM.

Well I'm with Miami,Comcast and already local channels were transmitted in digital format and was able to pick them up. However with the transition they expanded trough channel 79 somewhere. I have to do a rescan and pick them up. My only problem is my signal is a little weak and my Local HD don't look quite right.

Quote:As a suggestion I personally would like to recommed the "WizBdaChannelTool" to users start exporting their configuration according to their Cable Company,City; Since it is a tedious work to scan the frequencies and assign them correctly to the corresponding channel.
As an example my could take one whole night. Once completed I will post it hopefully other gbpvr users around my area could benefit from.
Cheers!
