Hi all,

this post is more for the dutch people. I recently discoverd that floppydtv is stopping its production. In NL (ziggo area) this is a disaster. Why? Well floppydtv is about the only PC card you can put in your HTPC.

I would like to know how you out there record digital tv from Ziggo with a HTPC...

Tnx for the replies

From the 1.4.7 thread: "added CI support for watching DVB pay TV channels outside of north america. Devices supported include Hauppauge WinTV-CI, and CI capable devices from Twinhan, FireDTV and TechnoTrend.". So that leaves Twinhan and Technotrend. And maybe you can still get your hands on a FloppyDTV.

Another possibility is MDAPI, which is working fine for me now in GBPVR.

elaborate on the MDAPI feature... I don't know that option. I'm also not aware that Twinhan en Technotrend in combination with a ziggo smartcard is a realistic option.

let's say I bought a new PC in a Antect Fusion with Blu-ray (which I almost did last week until I read the FloppyDTV article) and install XP or whatever on it.

Then what? What hardware should I buy to use GBPVR with Ziggo Digital TV? Preferably dualchannel. I wanted the GBPVR solution instead of a seperate Blu-ray and a Humax 5050C which are also nice.

If a card has a CI (which the Twinhan and Technotrend obviously have), then you'll need an Alphacrypt CAM. Alphacrypt is the only CAM that will work with Ziggo. And the CAM is the hardware you'll put your subscription card in. The CAM goes inside the CI of your card.
You are taking a chance with Alphacrypt, since Ziggo will do everything in it's power to sabotage it, but it will work for at least another year.
For MDapi, you'll need an card reader. It's harder to set up than CI, and it won't support more that one recording at the time (at this moment). Check my signature for working solutions. And a lot of information can be found on tweakers.net.

Tnx for the quik reply. (as you allways do).

The part about the alphacrypt I already understood. I was not aware that the other cards had that ability. It was all about FlopppyDTV whatever I read. It looked like that was the only card. It is probably the best card for the job.

When buying other solutions I can use a year (or something around a year) is a pretty steep investment to make when buying a HTPC now for around 800-1000 euro. I love GBPVR but not that much :-)

will keep your setup in considiration but will also look for other solutions. Tnx again for the help...

You should definitely check this topic on tweakers: http://zepman.tweakblogs.net/blog/2228/z....html#more. It might be a interesting for you (2 DVB-C cards and a card reader for about € 200,-)

Very good post thanks. This reference explains a lot. Do you run this with Mediaportal or GBPVR?

I run this with GBPVR. The downside with GBPVR is that it doesn't support the recording of more than one encrypted channel at the same time with MDAPI. But I also use two FloppyDTV's with CI, so one card with MDAPI is enough for me. The advantage of MDAPI with more than one DVB-C card, is that you'd only need one subscription card. In my setup I need three. Hopefully GBPVR will support this in the future, there is a wish item for it: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=42958

I've found there are other solutions around to keep GBPVR running even with Ziggo digital TV. But they are all less WAF and insecure... So I decided to go a completly other way.

Friday I bought a Humax 5050C and a Samsung BD-P3600. I'm pleased with equipment although it misses some very nice features GBPVR has. One of the best was the TV Guide program features (once, once every week this timeslot, etc. etc.). Sure the Humax has some of it but not as good as GBPVR. No PVR I looked at has that kind of feature. Will put it on the wishlist of the Humax in some forum Big Grin

So after 3 years of GBPVR it is time to dismantle the software on my Windows server and go into the 'out of the box' world of digital tv. I must say with alot of pain in my heart.

Especially Sub, but also all the others (mcBain, FatManDo, etc) thanks a lot. You are the best support team I ever had. Guys with that attitude on service I would hire any time (I'm head of a ICT department Wink ).

Who knows after a while I can return to GBPVR because digital cable tv is free of encryption and as consumer I can choose any solution as long as I pay my fee every month... NAh that will be in a next livetime. But hé who knows maybe I can come back to GBPVR.

I probably will keep the forum in my favorits and check it from time to time... Just to keep up.

By the way: I have now 2 x Hauppauge MVP for sale and 2 x Hauppauge PVR 150 SFF PCI cards. Works great with GBPVR and analoge TV... :p

Hello, I have the Ziggo's all in one package with the tv subscription. I want to connect it to my laptop ( Dell XPS 16 with RBGA screen and a built-in Tv-tuner)... I tried connecting the RF-Cable to the tv-tuner but it didn't work, not even the NL 1,2 and 3 showed up. So what is the EASEST way to get all the channels?

I just want it to be easy because I read the topic on tweakers that thankfully Sheik Yerbouti put, and it was so hard!

Thanks in advance.
