MVP via Xtreme-G?

Am looking to setup a MediaMVP for the downstairs TV to show stuff recorded upstairs with the system I'm building (PVR-350 if it matters).

Home network is using the D-Link Xtreme-G system which supports "up to" 108 mbps. I'm ordering a Wireless G bridge for the MediaMVP.

I assume this will be fast enough to work. But was wondering if anyone else could confirm (or not).

I am streaming live TV to a MVP using Linksys G (54mbs) router-bridge combo to a guest house (200 feet). Your setup should work fine.

Am still hoping to test this out soon. Have all the equipment, but the .90 release of GB-PVR doesn't seem to like my system...

Managed to get GB-PVR 0.90.10 to install on the new machine. However, when I chose to play one of my videos on the MediaMVP that is attached to the Wireless G Bridge, it goes for a minute or so, and then it drops to the "Looking for Servers" screen and won't come back until I unplug it for at least a minute.

I checked the unit, and it's a D1 rather than the D3's that I gather had the overheating issue. It is cool to the touch.

I've tried a couple different formats (mainly MPEG-1), and am running out of ideas.

I added an external antenna to my Router which seemed to help with getting some good signal strength - although now I wonder if I need one on the bridge as well.

Any suggestions?

FWIW, I just made all the registry changes that Tipsir gives for improving network performance in his thread here, and now I can get more like 5 minutes before it dies.

To me that sounds like I do have a network issue - although the only additional thing I can imagine to do is to get a directional hi-gain antenna from the MediaMVP back to the Router, and I would have assumed that the MVP talking back is not all that high traffic a situation. Anything else y'all could think of?

BTW, just so I don't appear to be a total sponge, I did just make a donation to the project - figure it's the least I can do.

This might be a performance problem with your networking kit. Try disabling encryption (WEP or WPA or whatever you are using) for a while and see if it makes a difference. The use of encryption on wireless circuits has an overhead with the net result being a perceived and measurable hit on performance. If disabling encryption fixes the problem, you have a couple of choices. Either put up with it and wait for the next generation of WLAN technology that formally supports higher speeds of 108MBPS (802.11n) as your equipment is probably only 'pseudo' 802.11n. Or secondly, consider using good ol' cable

Unfortunately, having thought the same thing about overhead, I had already turned off WEP on the network and made sure that the SP2 firewall was turned off at the server.

Good ol cable would actually be my preference, but the computer is on the 2nd floor east end, and the TV with the MVP is on the 1st floor west end. Cabling that would probably have it's own problems

Is there some particular encoding options that would minimize the load on the network/MVP ?

Just a suggestion, I don't have any real insight into your problem...

Would it be worth leaving GB-PVR playing some mp3 files and see how long your connection lasts. Obviously this would use less bandwith and might help show if it's a bandwidth issue or a problem with dropped connections??

Also, if there's anyway you can test with old fashioned cable, i'd definitely try that if I were you.

Blue - Worst case scenario I may try bringing the MVP and a Linksys switch and some cables upstairs just to convince myself that it really is the network. But the MP3 test may also be worthwhile.

Everyone - Spending a little more time on various forums, I'm gathering that the "Super G" and the "Extended Range" options that I set on my DLink router and cards might be making my problem worse rather than better, and that I might get better throughput from turning them both off? Anyone else using DLink equipment with a MediaMVP who could tell me if I'm reading that right?

I have a DLINK G+ network ( 2 DWL-2000AP+ , one in client mode ) . I was thinking about the MVP option, so I tried some test streaming between 2 PC's . The MPEG stream would cut out at random times , sometime after 10 mins, sometimes after 40mins. After many hours trying, I found that by changing the RTS Threshold in the Wireless/Advance/Performance settings to 1024 seems to have cured the problems ( 3 x 3hours runs -no drop-outs ) . Still need to test at distance and with encryption, but this might help !
