So my refurb turned up tonightand I managed to resist the urge to open the box until after going for a quick bike ride.....all this couch potatoe'ing is taking its toll!

So after playing with it for around 1/2 an hour ignoring the gbpvr aspect I got around to mvpmcx2. I followed the wiki and had it gbpvr'ing in 20 minutes or so...fantastic work well done.

From a fresh eyes perspective I have 2 comments:

The wiki is not to clear on the fact that if you leave the installer at defaults that it will download gbpvr and install it on your server. I had to kill the installer at this point and re-start but unticking the first check boxes....I'm guessing anyone who is going for gbpvr on a PCH has probably already got gbpvr on their server....it's not a critisism just a noob to pch observation.

The other is, once instaled when you go to the network share and run gbpvr you are faced with 3 options: gbpvr, gbpvr network, gbpvr usb...it's prbably in the wiki or forum somewhere but I think it would be good to pre-arm the user with what these mean and why there are 3 options.

So far the only problem I have is that it's fine if I browse network to the mvpmc folder on the share then run the gbpvr file.....but if I map the mvpmc folder as a media source then run gbpvr from there it doesn't launch I'm guessing it's something to do with the naming but I didn't change it, just copied mvpmc to the share name.

Welcome to the "club".

I'm not convince by your comment about the majority are adding a PCH to an existing gbpvr setup. Certainly round here, folk are buying a PCH just as a media player and then finding out about the PVR aspect of things.

Well, perhaps I'm biased bcause I went straight in with the PC in the main room ...the mvp or pch has always been a downstream decision for the "other room".

or else they are backward in yorkshireSmile

Actually thinking about it......GBPVR is mentioned on the PCH website, so maybee people buy them then go and seek the extra functionality as per the litrature.

That's one way. The other is when I tell them that for a few quid spent on a tuner they can have all the functionality of a digital PVR on their tiny little new toy.

I'm just surprised that this doesn't seem to happen much more.

I don't know about the wiki but I find the dummies guide and NMTInstall are very clear that GBPVR will be install. The dummies guide does on to add "Existing GB-PVR users could remove ...."

Your other problem is probably addressed here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40394 You probably entered something in the sharename on the PCH which is the most common install problem.

Elmo Putney,

wish I could be of some help but I can't as only a simple MVP user considering upgrading. Just wondered where you got your PCH from!?

Cheers

Problem solved i had indeed put a share name in.
Steeb, i just placed my order on the popcorn hour website, think it worked out as about 90 gbp delivered. I have to say it's a lot better than the mvp experience.

Until you get the invoice from DHL for VAT and customs clearance in a month or two

Seems the £ vs $ rate went through the floor the last couple of days - just as I was contemplating another PCH via teh refurb route.
