Weather 2 nearly

Hi,

have to start by thanking the Author for a re-working of the weather plugin.

It works really good and has much better options than the old plugin for my locality.

My problems:

It lists itself as 'Weather2' in my main menu. There used to be a workaround for re-naming plugins but I don't think this exists anymore? My point! If I ditch old plugin I would like this to appear as 'Weather' not 'Weather2' in main menu, after all why 'Weather2' if it is only the single entry for Weather?

My 2nd problem follows the 1st, this now appears to be the only plugin listed for Weather in the Wiki for GBPVR 1.4.7. Don't need the '2' appended if it is now the only supported plugin???!!!

Edit - Actually just been to Wiki again and suspect this is because original Weather has not been updated to list with 1.4.7.

I'd say Weather2 is the right choice as a name. The fact remains that this plugin, although based on Weather1, is a different plugin altogether, hence the independent wiki page, and different name. Don't forget, Weather1 uses Weather.com as source, while Weather2 uses Accuweather. That alone would set them apart.

But I do agree with you when it comes to the main menu, so I have this in my set language:

Simply because I still use Weather1 for WAF purposes, as Weather2's translation is still very much WIP. In the future, I'll just uninstall the original one, and change my translation of Weather2's name.

Edit your language, add a line for Weather2 and set it to whatever you desire. Save it, and re-apply the language to refresh pvrx2's text. Done

PS.- Weather is no longer listed because, by default, only maintained/supported plugins are listed. Since development/support for Weather has long since been stopped, it is considered unsupported.

I would agree that the choice of name is good to differentiate the 2 and as per my post my local source is far better with accuweather than weather.com

Well I went to languages earlier and there was no mention of Weather2, hence why I asked because I'm sure some way back I could edit names here. You say I can so if I look in eng.xml I've been looking in the wrong place?

Ah ha just re-read your post, so if entry isn't there you're saying create one?

I would suggest that you search for

translate originalText="Weather" translatedText="Weather"/>

and change it to

<translate originalText="Weather" translatedText="Weather1"/>

then add a new entry

<translate originalText="Weather2" translatedText="Weather"/>

obviously, use a text editor like notepad...

I assume Sykor is saying that you need to go into config and reselect your language setting, then OK config - I've never changed my language file to be honest...

You don't really need to rename it but it would be useful just in case you ever decided to install another plugin called Weather.

Hmmm, all of this has called up some very innapropriate behaiour from GBPVR. Crashes bangs and wallups all over the place. Shame as I just rebuilt the whole server today with fresh install of 1.4.7. Rebuild again I guess but try to get this ironed out with the renaming of Plugins before I commit too hard!

I know we used to do this fairly easily, it should still be there?

ACTCMS just sent me some code that will allow you to change the plugin name via the config.

This was you don't have to use a language filter to rename it.

I'll try adding it for the next release.

Brilliant, and thanks to you for re-working this plugin. I now get my very near town instead of one more than a few miles away!

I'll still try to rename this plugin in language unless you get there 1st! After all I only need one weather plugin and I don't want a 2 after it as it is only 1!
