I have two half hour shows I recorded that show a time line of 2 1/2 minutes. The file sizes are about 10% of what I would expect for a half hour show.

I did watch one and it seems the whole show is there, but, it plays at warp speed. The show runs at "fast forward" and probably plays in around 2 minutes.

What causes that? Those two programs recorded back-to-back. The next night 4 shows recorded normally.

I tried to retime and re-run the mpg but I get the same result.

Are the files salvageable? What do I need to do?

What format are you recording? If it .ts maybe the TS-Doctor can fix it, some other tools was mentioned in this forum a while ago, try searching for ts-doctor (with similar spelling).

I don't know. The output is an mpg file. If it was ts, would it be a ts file?

The extension tells only what format the container that the video data is packed in. A .ts container is slightly different from a .mpg container, but there can be H264, mpeg or in princip any format of data in it. If yours is a recorded standard definition tv-program it is most likly mpeg-data, if it is HDTV it is H264.

Try looking at this thread: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=36709

Mine is standard definition tv. I read that thread and most of it sounds like greek to me.

I did down load the stream clip file and will try that. I like the ability to capture you tube and google videos, so even if it doesn't fix my time line issue, it won't be a total loss.

You can also try downloading MPEG-Corrector (had a link but it didn't work, google for it).

There may also be some good advice here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/92042

if this files are so small, it won't be possible to save anything, since it's not a matter of wrong timestamps etc.

I agree. Since you say the filesize is only 10% of what you would expect for a half hour show, the 2.5 mins playing time sounds right. I would say there was a glitch in your recording but I couldn't tell you if it was hardware or driver related.
