I have to do a full windows re-install, on new hardware. I have available both an XP-MCE and an XP Pro system disk. Previously I have run gbpvr under xp-mce, quite successfully, but it was quite struggle to get everything working, a lot of the time, I think because of little issues with XP-MCE

Question; which would be preferable, plain old XP pro, or XP-MCE
Further Question: Do I go to SP3. I have seen in one of the forums that SP3 installed in XP-MCE gives you problems with my one of my tuner cards (Hauppauge Nova-T 500, dual)

The machine running GBPVR runs only as a server. All the material is streamed to the TVs in the house via three Hauppauge MVPs, running under mvpmc, so there is no need for any remotes etc for the gbpvr machine

Full spec of the GBPVR machine as follows:
Mobo: Asus M4A78-E
Processor: AMD Athlon 5000 Dual Core
Clock speed 2200 Mhz
RAM: 2 gb DDR-2 800 Mhz
Tuner card 1; Hauppauge Nove-T 500 Dual
Tuner card 2: Hauppauge PCR150MCE
On Board graphics
SATA disk drives

I've run GBPVR on XP-MCE and Vista-MCE. I never had any trouble with MCE, but if you're not going to use it, why bother with MCE.

XP Media Center Edition is XP Pro. You can download transformation packs to turn XP Pro into MCE.

If you install the latest Hauppauge drivers (4.3.26168) XP SP3 works just fine - can't comment on MCE though.

Works fine on MCE also. Like I said above they are the same OS.

I've run GBPVR on both. I'm not smart enough to have noticed a difference. Both worked.

Google for "Windows XP Professional 32-bit en-US - Black Edition v2009.7.20.iso" (2009.7.20 is last version right now), that is best WinXP version you can get...

I downloaded something called Black Edition once, it was a Windows allright, but it was packed with trojan horses!

So you had a bad luck then.
My original CD of WinXP laying somewhere full of dust, this WinXP release is simply so great, instalation takes under 10min on my HTPC (it have different installer), FrameWorks 3.5 + SATA drivers integrated, latest updates, etc...
If you got direct version from author torrent, it is 100% virus free.
