Build 82 of EWA has been released. You can download it directly here or on the wiki.

Date: 2009-12-31 Build Number: 82 Changes:
  • UncleJohnsBand: Added experimental Windows Mobile Streaming option using - WM Video, WMA2 Audio, ASF Mux.
  • UncleJohnsBand: Corrected Search by description issues.
  • UncleJohnsBand: Added maxRecordings as a returned element in the web service DetailService call.
  • whurlston: Removed color coding pop-up in guide.aspx to use a javascript hover display instead.
  • UncleJohnsBand: Changed part of web service encryption logrythm to use Rfc2898DeriveBytes insted of PasswordDeriveBytes.
    • This provided needed support for PHP encryption library compatability.

  • UncleJohnsBand: Corrected VLC streaming issue that impacted streaming outside of the local network.
    • Streaming now works with VLC 9.x and 1.x (recommend 1.x).

  • UncleJohnsBand: Corrected the version info not displaying on CSS page footers after initial page load.
  • UncleJohnsBand: Added a TinyURL link for downloading entries in Manage Recordings and Music and Video Libraries in both tabls and CSS screens.
    • The link is on the Details pop-up for items in Manage Recordings page.
    • Clicking the file name in the Library screens will open a pop-up with the link in it.

  • UncleJohnsBand: CSS General Notes:
    • CSS Note: To access CSS based screens use guide2.aspx as your start page.
    • CSS Note: CSS screens are coded in strict standards mode. This will make future updates easier and provides the best cross-browser (Firefox / IE) compatibility. However, this also means that the CSS sceens will only be fully supported by IE 7 and FireFox. Some screens will not work correctly in IE6. Sorry.
    • CSS Note: CSS screens are optimized for screens with 1024x768 resolution or higher. Lower resolution will just cause more scrolling on some screens.
    • CSS Note: Please post feedback/bugs in the EWA CSS Guide sticky thread located in the EWA support forum.

The wiki has install instructions for a first-time install, but I don't see anything about an upgrade install. Will the installer just run and do its thing, or do we still have to shut down the recording service, delete files, etc.?

Thanks!

AFAIK you do need to follow the wiki install instructions for an upgrade.

If I load build 82, every time I start config.exe, it needs to be repaired. Windows pops up the little box saying something to the effect of please wait while GBPVR is reconfigured. The status bar fills to the right, then empties to the left, numerous times. A file upgrade.ddl shows up in the gbpvr directory then disappears.

If I put 81 back in, config starts up with no problem. If I put 82 back, config has the problem. if I put 81 in again, config works again.

With 82, once config finishes repairing, it seems to work. Actually, digital mapping restarts the repair.

I am using Windows XP MCE & GBPVR 1.4.7.

The behavior normally happens when you delete the bin directory....the install instructions on the wiki mention this behavior when the bin diretory is removed.

Did you follow these instructions......bullets 4 & 5 specifically?

That was what I figured I had done at first. Maybe missed one of the files or something. So, I was very careful to follow the steps exactly on subsequent tests. Also, PVRX2 started without the problem when build 82 is in place. So, I can say that I am positive when I performed my most recent test with build 82, I followed the steps & I had the problem with config but not the main program. What can I do to diagnose this?

Its not you......it is the way the GBPVR install is setup.....there were a lot of changes in Build 82 and apparently it made the auto-repair feature angry.... Big Grin

This is one of the 1% times that the only resolve is to wait for the next release of GBPVR which will have the most current version of EWA.

The only thing you can do is get all you gbpvr config stuff done (hopefully you don't have to be in there much) and then install build 82.

You will continually have to re-install build 82 anytime that auto-repair downgrades EWA to build 81 which is what shipped with GBPVR 1.4.7 Sad

Have noticed the same problem, after following the EWA 82 instructions verbatim. Not complaining at all just...
Being relatively new to GB-PVR, I can only say it's an awesome tool, thx to all developers for this. How often does that happen though?
i.e. - is there a typical release schedule?

Thankfully not too often.....maybe once every 10 releases or so. Of late I have been aligning the EWA releases with the GBPVR release so that the base install of GBPVR stays in sync.

The repair will run any time you start the config application....so....get all your config stuff done in GBPVR, update EWA then your done.

hmm, the windows installer/config problem would actually occur every time I
tuned an ATSC channel in PVRX2 as well. So I wound up just reverting to EWA 81 as packaged in GB-PVR 1.47.
Was just too annoying...Still an awesome program though, thx for the replies...

Sidenote: I have run in to similar windows installer issues like that with other programs at work in the past,
and I think the solution was to ensure installing with Admin rights, and the end user having Local admin
rights afterward, so it wouldn't happen every time they weren't on the LAN. Like at work they are typically
shy of giving every user in the company Local Admin rights to their PC (paranoia).
I didn't try anything like that with this problem, yet...
