I have a Palm Pre which otherwise has a nicely functional web browser, virtually identical to the iPhone's browser as both are built using webkit. I haven't found any sites that it doesn't work with, save one: EWA's login screen.

When I attempt to login, after typing my userid and password if I press Enter, I get an "Invalid username or password" message and password clears out. If instead of pressing Enter I simply click the Login button, I get no message and the password field keeps it's value, but otherwise nothing happens. It never leaves this screen.

I have EWA configured to skip the login screen for users connecting from the home network, so if I'm home on my WAN the Pre works fine. I haven't found anything not functional except that login screen. So what's so special about that screen? And do you have any ideas what I might try? While I'm not a javascript programmer, I am a developer who has tweaked a few javascript programs to suit my needs on occasion.

What I did do was unhide the password hash on the panel. When trying to login from my Pre, this never gets populated, regardless of whether I click Login or press Enter. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Post the EWA Log after you try to login.......you can get to the log via the config tab in EWA.

My guess is that the browser on the palm doesn't handle the md5 encryption library used by the java script.......

Do that also, but...

Quote:When I attempt to login, after typing my userid and password if I press Enter, I get an "Invalid username or password" message and password clears out.

Try Pressing the "LOGIN" button on the web gui, instead of "Enter" on ur keyboard. Same thing happens to me on my iPhone, and kick myself everytime (brain says Login, habit does ENTER), but never fails when ya press the "LOGIN" button instead.

Edit: I'm mistaken, it's the laptop where I keep pressin the ENTER button by accident. The iPhone ya don't have the virtual keyboard up at the time, so ya have no choice but to tap the LOGIN button in the web GUI...which is why it just works...
On another note, recently I did stumble on some other mobile device I was playing with, which wouldn't allow me to press the LOGIN web gui button (i.e no response). But I would call that a flaw in the mobile's web browser.

That was kind of my suspicion... just not sure if there's a good way to work-around it. Here's the pertinent log data, essentially confirming it.

If my IP address didn't change all the time, I'd just configure EWA to allow it to bypass the login panel. I have my phone register it's IP change via dyndns - so I can telnet into the phone more easily - but I'm afraid changing EWA to accept a computer name instead of an IP address might have to be a project for a time when my "honey-do" list is much, much shorter.

Any other ideas?

Clicking Login doesn't seem to do anything. From the logs you can see the click is registered, but unfortunately the password hash isn't computed.

I'm not so sure the problem is related to compatibility with MD5. I located the source for the included MD5 algorithm and I can run the tests on his web page fine. I noticed the source has been updated slightly and so I copied it locally and tried it again, but with the same result.

I'll dig around a bit more, but if you have any other thoughts I'm all ears.

Well, I managed to hack EWA to check my IP against my DynDns-registered IP and auto-login if they match. I am still curious if you have some ideas what might be failing, but at least I'm functional now.

I declared victory a bit too quickly... I thought the phone worked with the rest of EWA, but that's because I didn't do too much with it. Essentially, it can't click buttons.

I'm not quite sure what it doesn't like about the buttons - I'm not familiar enough with CSS and Javascript to know what's different out EWA's form buttons versus other web sites. I've had the phone since July and haven't noticed trouble on other ASP websites, but then again I can't think of too many forms I typically enter data on.

Other links, including the tabs work fine.

That's why I mentioned the "other phone" issue in which I had the same problem. Press a button, (including the submit button) no response....
Thus I couldn't "Login" with that phone. Phone browser implementation issue for sure in my case...
Have you tried any other browser on the phone, like OPERA? (I have not). Sometimes Opera Mobile may work better than what comes native on the phone.
Sometimes not...

I've been reading more about ASP and webkit based browsers - Safari, Chrome, WebOS - it appears WebKit based-browser has compatibility problems with it. There are certain work-arounds that can be and often are enabled based on the browser type but I'm guessing these aren't enabled for my Pre, it's so new. I'm hoping I can figure out exactly what the incompatibility is and then maybe work around it.

Probably not though - I'm a javascript newb. At least I can login now. Smile
