ok here it is

requirements
1. sql server 2005 or above (express is fine)
2. community skin 3

how to use
1. run the installer
2. select a full database, i havent tested sql compact edition
3. launch pvrx2 and go to 'Videos'
4. press "left" and select "Files" from the menu
5. a location popup box should be displayed, browse for a location to add (this box can be shown again via F11 on this screen)
6. wait for the service to scan the folders, if you're impatient you can add all your locations then launch services.msc from windows and restart the 'Videos File Watcher' service
7. enjoy, report serious bugs.

theres a log file in gbpvr\logs for the videos file service.

i need someone to create a blue skin for this, and not use any of the existing graphics, most of them are from boxee alpha. i want this to be done before a next release.

this is a very very very alpha release. it hasn't been tested much or used much for over a year. and i rushed to get it up now.

download

Hi reven, sorry - meant to test this but have been lacking in sleep this week. Will download sql server now, and try it out tomorrow. (Truth to tell, I also am surprised at the sudden silence after letting people try it out - maybe everyone has been struck dumb by your brilliance? Smile )

I assume we don't need that the non-"advanced services" version of sql server express will suffice?

its not for faint of heart, i just need a few people to test the basic functions and someone to step up and do a blue skin for it. then ill put the source into the gbpvr library and let someone else take it from there (i no longer use gbpvr, switched to mythtv and an apple tv frontend)

I still plan on doing the blue skin, and have gotten as far as installing everything, just haven't had time yet to skin it. I plan on it getting done by Sunday-ish.

Hi!

I can't get passed the setup screen where you enter your server and your database name and password.

I don't really know where this server info is or how to obtain the login and password etc...

I think many will have the cs3 skin barrier as they are on cs4 now.

I lucked out and had an old community skin 3 installer in a directory.

I installed this as soon as it was uploaded but was embarrased by my ignorance.

eagerly awaiting from anyone getting this up and running.

cheers

If you have already installed SQL Server 2005 Express (about a 35M download from Microsoft) then you can just click "next" on the setup screen, and it will set up the database for you.

I'm still trying to get it work - for some reason it couldn't see some of reven's dll/pdb combos in the videos plugin directory, so I have copied them to the plugins/common directory instead. I have now selected/added a videos directory, but am not sure whether it is looking up the files or doing nothing Smile I will leave it to think for a while.

chances are the db info will be
server: localhost\sqlexpress
database: VideosDB
and you may be able to leave username/password blank.

yeah i know, that why i need a blue skin asap Smile thanks Fatman_do for offering to do this Smile

dont be, if you cant get it to work, its my bad programming/install instructions/wizard. this should be a simple plugin to install and use. well one that you click next a couple of times, add a location (which i think is easy) and then just let it do its thing and use it.

odd, i always got it to work by just running the installer and configuring the db. ill try get a vm running and do some clean installs.

thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming
