NZ Satellite new C42 and SBS channels - DVBtoXMLTV settings.

Just to say that for anyone who wants to get the listings for C42 (C4 all-day music video offshoot, so no real program lineup) and SBS One, Two and HD via sub's DVBtoXMLTV program, add the following lines to DvbToXMLTV.xml:

Under the <!-- 12456 --> heading add:
<Channel service="1940-21-47" name="C42"/>

Create a new group for SBS:

<!-- 12646 -->
<Channel service="897-896-12802" name="SBS ONE"/>
<Channel service="898-896-12802" name="SBS TWO"/>
<Channel service="901-896-12802" name="SBS HD"/>

as well as adding this transponder search at the end of the file before the </Scan> tag:
<Transponder captureSource="any">T:12646,V,12600,</Transponder>


Unfortunately when I put my second dvb-s card in I went for the cheap and cheerful splitter option rather than getting a dual lnb, so recording any of the NZ Horizontal broadcasts during an SBS Vertical recording will be out of the question.

For anyone else who has set up dual dvb-s cards with a splitter, do your satellite rescan on your first source, as my second one couldn't change the polarity.

Now to decide if the lineup is worth getting a dual lnb for (unfortunately the one previously on sale at freeviewshop has gone back to $79). SBS may disappear again, but I know of several people who intend to use it to watch the Football World Cup in HD.

yeah there has been some strange shit going on with powering the lnb in the last release i put it down to my hvr4000 not working right

If I wanted to test this, I just unplug the sky decoder while I try the V frequency - is that correct?

I have now tried recording a few SBS programs, and seem to be getting a glitch every couple of seconds. Have tried software disabling second dvb-s card in case the splitter is at fault, but no dice. Will try physically disconnecting the splitter - if that fixes it, I may have to get a dual lnb after all. (CS42 of course works fine).

For ages I was having problems getting clean recordings from the SBS channels but found adjusting the skew on my lnb cured all the problems, I found after cocking around for ages the only way I could get it right was to borrow a friends set top box & use the quality/strength display on it to get the best compromise setting (moving it about 1mm made all the difference), since then all recording from all channels have been fine.

Thanks Jaggy, I will try that too. Is there a software quality/strength application that could do the job? I will ask around to see if anyone has a hardware box which could show signal strength, but surely someone must have written a simple app that does just that?

You would think so wouldn't you but I couldn't find anything.

Even using the cheap meter I bought for the lining up with the satellite didn't work for setting the skew.

Fair enough - although looking for one did lead me to the dishpointer site - I could see their iphone/android interactive app being enough reason for a dish installer to buy a smartphone!

Is there a software quality/strength application that could do the job?

I know dvbdream has a signal strength module which can display the strength / quality of a transponder in realtime (and can display in huge text / full screen so you can see while adjusting)
