I have no problem with a DB, that is probably preferred. But I would also have the ability to show the music content in the way it is sorted in my folders.
Without having to edit all the ID3-tags.

I'd have to confirm (because I did mean to add it) if there is no ID3 info ML3 was supposed to assume this information for the database followed this folder structure.
Artist\Album\Song

I am certain that if the song title is longer than the ID3 title it will override it to avoid ID3v1 limits.

just to add another 2 cents here: I'm a long-time ML2 user, with GB-PVR 1.4.7 and an MVP. For living-room use, ML2 gets used at least as often as the PVR aspects of GB-PVR. I tried ML3 early on in its lifetime, but it broke some things, so I've just been sticking with what works. With a library of many thousand tracks, I find it to be by far the best way to organize, select, create playlists etc on the MVP - far superior to the standard Music Library.

I've installed NPVR to try it out, and it looks great. I've also sprung for an EGreat NMT because its HD outputs work better with my setup (even though all the TV recordings are still SD). Would love to move to that exclusively and leave GB-PVR behind. However, until some version of ML (4, sounds like) works with NPVR I must stick with GB-PVR 1.4.7.

Martin, pls don't give up! We're all counting on you... Cool

The results don't look too promising for a port to NPVR at the moment. I doubt all ML3 users will flip over so the amount of work needed to support maybe 10 users is not very satisfying. I've got random playing with MusicBox4 and that will do for me into the winter.

I understand - that's a lot of work to support a small number of users. I thought about my own usage a bit more and wonder if there's another plugin or solution that will do what I really use ML2 for, which is to queue tracks from many different artists & build a playlist on the fly. I don't even need to save the playlist, I just like to go through the collection and queue up a couple of hours of music from various artists (depending on my mood!) and then just let it play. The built-in music player would work fine if it had a "queue track" feature (like the yellow button on ML2). Anybody know of a way to do that outside of ML2 (and preferably in NPVR, which would enable me to move immediately to that version)??

NPVR does support building of playlists on the fly, and you can remove songs from the playlist too.

Martin, if you know of a way to queue tracks in NPVR I'd be grateful to hear how. I know you can create a playlist on the fly by selecting "Play" in a folder, which will then queue all the tracks in that folder (and you can then delete tracks from that playlist). But each time you do that the playlist is replaced. I can find no way to create a playlist of items from more than one folder (my library has a separate folder for each artist.) I'm looking for a way to browse the collection of artists and tracks, and whenever I see something I want to have added to the playlist I click <something>.

I found this thread from a couple of weeks ago: http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?47808, featuring a reply by Sub which says: "You can delete tracks from the play queue, but there is nothing to explicitly add things to the queue. I could probably add some keystoke to the main music library screen for queueing additional tracks though." Which sounds like exactly what I'm looking for - Sub, any chance of getting that functionality added to a release anytime soon???

Thanks!

Sorry, I found out after I wrote that that NPVR doesn't allow playback or queuing of just one song.

Yes, I can most likely add something like this in the next week or two.
