I am thinking to bite into development of a RSS Reader plugin for NPVR. Is there anybody already working on a similar plugin?

As a warning to others the included BlueRetroVE+ RSSReader skin will NOT work with the latest (2.4) version of BlueRetroVE+ I release the other day for 1.5.31.

Oops sorry tmrt I broke the included BlueRetroVE+ RSSReader skin with my 2.4 version of the main skin I uploaded the other day, due to having to re-do all the fonts to get PAL working properly with the NMT I re-named all the fonts in global.xml so there are no longer any "GeneralxxxxxxText" fonts.....sorry again.

I was not aware of this. Anyway the included skin file is pretty rough and it would need a refinement anyway.

I have just about finished doing a few changes to your BRVE+ skin & as soon as I can find an appropriate background image I will upload it........it will be tomorrow now as it has got rather late.

I have been testing your RSSReader as well as doing the skin & I have a couple of things that I have noticed so far.....

1. I had the NMT reboot when I tried to listen to the (first?) podcast link, it showed a buffering message while it was playing but it only got to 28% then seemed to stop there & then appeared to lock up & finally the NMT rebooted.

2. I wonder if it would be an idea to have some sort of caching of the feeds after they load as I found it a bit frustrating to wait for them to load again when I went back to one I had already visited before?

3. Any chance of some form of zoom like the old rssreader had as I can't read the comic strips on the TV the way it is now......old blind bugger syndrome.

I find the same behaviour using MVP.
I use the NPVR helper function to play the downloaded file. Maybe sub or martin can help here.

They should have already been cached, so there is probably a bug somewhere. I will check.

I plan to implement this. Currently I do not fully understand the NPVR rendering process. So I was sticking with the simplest solution I know.

I wonder if it need some form of buffering before it starts playing the still growing file?

I hoped something like that would be the case......... looking forward to when you get it figured out Smile

Another questions......does @details in the ListItems do anything or is it just left over for you getting up & running?

Code:
        <Text text="@details" location="2,54" size="96,50" font="NormalText" outlineWidth="1" borderColor="Black" align="Right" valign="Center"/>

It plays for me using the podcast feature of WebRadio 3 (I've given up doing minor updates to WR here due to lack of interest). Yes you do need to buffer before playing on the MVP/NMT. Also for the PC you might need to strip id3v2 tags which are in some streams.

Right Ho chaps......here is my version of the skin for RSSReader using BlueRetroVE+, it includes a background image & new taskimage to show on the main menu as well as the skin file, just run the installer & it will update your current BRVE+ install.

NOTE: it requires the current v2.4 of BlueRetroVE+ to work!!
